MY 106.1

Any thoughts on the recent tweaks to MY 106.1? They have started playing pop/soft rock material such as Train and Michael Buble. I don't think this station could legitimately be called a Rhythmic AC anymore. Quite disappointing as I think, done right, it's a format that could do quite well in Philly.

I haven't heard it, but I think it makes sense to send it in a more mainstream AC direction, given the huge ratings B-101 is pulling. But they need the music to be more focused, not less.

It's clearly moved in that direction, but right now it's sort of in an "in-between" stage and the music mix is pretty awful. I'm new to this market but hasn't AC been tried and failed before by competitors? B101 is pretty much always on top, correct?

Whatever, I'm waiting for the day it will become "Rush Radio 106.1". ;D

but for now lets enjoy summer

Didn't we hear the same refrain last year? (That and Christmas on Ben-FM....gues they didn't feel like it.)

GM put Christmas music on WPEN-HD2 last year as NOW 97.5. Does GM do it again this year?

I like the idea of Rush radio on 106.1. Rush and Sean preemted too much on 1210 by Phillies.

If CC grabs all of its shows from 1210 (including Beck), what happens to 1210. WWDB didn't make it after CBS grabbed Rush as live and local.

I don't think it is a coincidence that within a few days of the playlist tweaks, MY's (and Q102's) DJ Richie Rich was canned. It definitely appears they're going to try the AC experiment again, which never seemed to work for anyone besides B101. MY was never exactly a "pure" rhythmic/ac though, as they have always played several non-rhythmic ac songs. However, their web site now shows an image referring to "more variety of today and back in the day" and the new title of their web site is "Philly's Feel Good Station". Last week it was "Move to the Music".

But really, why make these changes in the middle of the summer? !

Screw that. It's too hot. I wish stations across the country would flip to Christmas Music now. It would make people feel cooler.

dont give them any ideas

Bring Sunny 104.5's format back to 106.1, it would be a refreshing change from all the bad AC stations. I wouldn't mind 5 months of Christmas music ;-)

I never understood the point of that. Why put something on an HD subchannel that someone else is running on a main channel?

I think CBS should swap the formats on 1210 and 610, but leave the Phillies on the new SportsRadio 1210. No more preemptions for the syndicated talk, and a better signal (they should invest some engineering dollars into making 1210 everything it can be signal-wise) for CBS's stronger and 100% local format. Why do they need a 50 KW clear channel station to run syndicated shows that are on stations from NYC to Wilmington to Baltimore?

What happens is that it becomes a clearing house for all of Westwood One's syndicated programming. Jim Bohannon, Dennis Miller, they run Smerconish's syndicated show in its live slot, etc.

All the more reason to stick that format on 610 and beef up the local sports on 1210.

Why would someone post about CBS Radio station on a Clear Channel Radio Topic? I would love to see Sunny 104.5's format back to 106.1 but the sunny format from when it first went on the air when it played some 50's & early 60's music.

Someone posted about Clear Channel taking back their shows, which are currently on a CBS station, and putting them on one of their stations.

Was it that hard to follow?

Clear Channel currently syndicates Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity's radio shows. In Philly, they're heard on WPHT, owned by CBS. In other cities in the country, Clear channel has started talk stations with the above programs and other clear channel talk programs. They operate a station with little or no local talent, hire sales people to sell this program and maybe keep more money than selling the programming to a competator's radio station.

Here in LA, Clear Channel's powerhouse news/talker KFI only airs Rush, the rest of the schedule is live and local with the exception of Coast 2 Coast AM. I'm surprised CC decided not to put Beck and Hannity on KFI.

Now to the original topic - I noticed on yes.com, My 106.1's top 10 is all hot AC tracks. They have added a lot more currents, though I see they still play songs from their rhythmic AC format. Sunny 106.1 or NOW 106.1 anyone?

Check out Wild 1027 in Atlantic City ...get rid of "my" with something else and copy the format with better imaging.....This format would destroy in Philly...I know the bashers are coming ...but honestly do you like my 106's current format??? I'm not saying pure dance...check out their format..it infuses dance Hip Hop and Pop..

WiLD 106.1 sounds like a good idea, but would it interfere with Q102/Power 99?

Good point...It would def hurt Q102...maybe Wired 96.5 can steal it ;).....actually I wasn't thinking about the clusters other stations....maybe an active rock station..but it prob wouldn't crack the top ten....
