Is now Christmas 107.3. Will they re-tool after the holidays, or change, or stay the same ?

They may re-brand, as they have some Trademark issues with the word "My," I hear.

New Rock was a great place to work. I truly miss that bunch.

I agree, completely. We must know each other, then--though it's been 10 years since they blew it up. Are you still in the market? Did you stay on to work for CC?

In all sincerity, I've never seen a station take a market by storm as quickly & completely as New Rock. Absolutely the most fun I've ever had in radio.

I'm out of the market, and I'm guessing we know each other. I was there when the switch was made and did stay with CC for a short time. What did you do there?

I ran the place--as GM. New Rock was my baby. (Now, if there's a hint of recognition, keep it to yourself. It's nice to be anonymous on this board).

But, yeah, XBM had kicked WOWW's ass in Country and it took me a year to convince corporate to fire up NR. When it hit, it hit big. Sales shot through the roof. Then Southern/Paxson snapped up 107 & TK (I bailed) and merged them, deciding that TK was the better-known "brand." So they ditched the hotter one in favor of the established one. Very weird scene, generally--considering that they were just "placeholders" for CC, anyway.

And what was I paying you to do there? :)

AH!
Hello, sir. Actually I wasn't around you long enough for you to even remember. Just called Ed to figure this out...I was your MTV girl one summer then started on overnights. It was my first radio job. New Rock is my favorite memory. Any idea where Suzy is? Ed and I lost her.

Oh, I think I might remember you--you were prettier than Ed, right? Speaking of The Special One, what's he up to? Great jock--I'm sure he has stories!

Ms. Boe spent a number of years as a Birmingham star at RAX and then I think she meandered up to Lexington. But that's where the trail ends... Z103?

I gather Jeannie parted ways with CC. Is Joel still there? Patty?

Ah the special one...king of the segue! He actually trained me. I did all those live bits that summer and fell in love with Ed, Suz, and Alex so they begged Joel to let me stay. I think just because I always brought them pizzas. Ed is a tattoo artist in P'cola and we talk regularly. I knew Suz was in Lexington but thats where we lost her. Joel apparently has weathered the storm quite nicely. Don't know about Patty. Alex was in Mobile for awhile, don't know now. We were all very close for quite awhile and they were very happy times. I think of them often and fondly.

I believe I heard Patty was either still in Pensacola or Mobile. If I'm remembering right it's the latter. When one-zero-seven went on I was taking a break from the on air thing and would have "New Rock withdrawals" when away for vacations. It was a great station!

Thanks. I modeled it on KROQ, WKQX, WHFS & WNNX and hired the 99X PD to consult. Steve Williams was the Ops Mgr--he's a regional PD for a half-dozen stations up in the Mid-Atlantic--and Joel was PD. Mark Tully's agency did the cool artwork--I gather that the T-shirts are still collector's items. Right place, right time, right people. For me, the most fun was watching the holdover jocks (Steve & Joel among them) go from being unknown voices on the has-been Country station to being considered cutting-edge local celebrities--almost overnight. Oh, yeah, it was nice to watch the sales numbers skyrocket, too. It done real good!

I've got an idea for them. How 'bout "New Rock One-Zero-Seven?"
I remember hearing that station once, sitting at a gas station in the back seat of the car, in Gulf Shores AL, sounded great, but back then, I was obsessed with Arrow 100.7, so I didn't hear much of it.

I'm Mark Tully, an agency copywriter in Pensacola. I've seen my name on here a few times, thankfully in kind words. I did the work (advertising etc) forNew Rock One Zero Seven and about 15 years of similar weirdness.

New Rock was a wonderful project with actual radio people at the helm. Unofrtunately, it was killed before it could thrive.

Nice to be on this board, finally, and thanks again for the kind words.

Hey, Mr. Biscuit! Thanks for unearthing this thread from two (!!!) years ago. There has indeed been occasional reminiscing regarding New Rock One Zero Seven from time to time, and it continues to be edifying to those of us involved. To give appropriate credit where due, I'll admit to instigating the idea back in '94 with inspiration from pioneers at WHFS & WNNX. Joel Sampson provided critical consultation on the music core, Steve Williams provided the formatic structure, and we lucked into some remarkable air talents including Special Ed, Suzy Boe, LaLaine & more. And the sales staff deserves a lot of credit for achieving stunning financial success that eventually became part of TK's surviving foundation when the stations merged. But you, Mr. Biscuit (in the guise of Mark Tully) deserve inordinate credit for One Zero Seven's enduring coolness, weirdness--unique position in the annals (not anals) of Pcola radio lore. You christened it One Zero Seven, designed the visual brand, wrote the imaging materials... created the website at a time when only a handful knew what a website was.

Yeah, it was fun. Fifteen years ago??? Thanks. I'll always testify to your role in making New Rock what it was. Even when you want to deny it...

As an impressionable youth at the time, I'll blame the 1 zero 7 crew for partially getting me hooked on radio. Heh, I was 12 maybe 13 at the time, and Alex used to set up phoners with me.

Hell, without 107, I never would have always ended up on WNSP when flipping between 107 and 101 and getting hooked on the sports.

So in this order:

1. WKRP on channel 10 Sunday mornings.
2. New Rock one-zero-seven.
3. Arnie Spanier at one-on-one sports.

So if you hate me, direct letters to Howard Hessman, Alex and Arnie - in that order. Oh, and the countless (ok FOUR) people who said "yeah, give him a microphone."

Adam? You still at The Ticket? Not in the market, so I can't listen. Website, like poledo says, is a bit
questionable about if you are or are not there. Maybe it's really somewhere in the middle and you've managed
to break an angular plane of broadcasting. You're live and local, but only part of the time. Rest of the
time you're there, just dead. If it's possible, Lord knows, it would happen on the Panhandle.

Ahh, that website. Sore subject that I'm not touching. I do the NFL Pregame on Sundays for the talent fee and to stay behind a microphone for a few hours... but then it's on to the 4th person to blame:

I was 19, faxed every radio station in town and offered to sweep the floors. Well, Lynn West called me, said that they had someone way more qualified than me to sweep, but they needed someone to play CDs on Sunday mornings.

6 years later, I left to go to New Mexico. 3.5 years later the Production Director job opened up for the 2 Pamal stations (actually, one year, then another 2.5) and this time, I took it. And I just now did the math and I'm under a month away from 10 years in radio (if you discount the 2 months at WZNO when I was 16).

Ten Years? Wow.

TEN?

Feels like about 30. I'm not as old as I feel!
