Was it 1990 when they went to Oldies? I know there was a time (well over a year I think) when it was then ABC Sat delivered "Oldies Radio", before ownership changed hands and the went with live and local talent.

Around late 89, early 1990 it was Oldies but it was a satellite format and they would call it "Kool Gold 99.9." I think I still have that bumper sticker somewhere

They actually tried oldies for a time after dropping Beautiful music as KFMW and changing calls to KOLA in 1968 before going AOR.

KOLA went AC in August 1989 for 4 months then switch to Oldies right before the New Decade...

KOLA was also DANCE/CHR late 1988 to August 1989. It tweaked its long time Top 40 format to include more Dance as KPWR was doing well with it. The format included alot of freestyle and house. They wanted to go younger to compete with KGGI but failed.. I had some old tapes of it which included KGGI's DJ Lynwood as one of the DJ's..
