My am antenna

I just setup my AM antenna out at my place in Lavaca county. I had a old speaker wire and tied it onto a screw on our roof of the house. I can now pick up almost 32 AM stations. My question is would light ling be a issue? as far as striking close? I just have the antenna wire tied on the screw of the roof.

Thanks
I was worried about that. I lost almost half my equipment one night in a storm, my Direct TV, stereo and tuner was all fried. I'll try another setup.

Easiest thing to do is unplug it from your radio when you're not listening to it and not use the long wire in a storm. Also, make sure it's properly grounded.

One thing I have learned about lightning is that even if you think you are protected you are not. I've personally seen lighting take out equipment that was unplugged and sitting on a storage rack. The emf from a close by positive strike can induce thousands of volts through any thing metallic.

I guess I need to find out a different way to set it up then, a cheap way and hopefully to pick up just as many.
