Your B98 plastic cup is getting (almost) as old and booring as the Star 94 plastic cup.
Seriously speaking, I don't have sufficient info about the on-air personalities, but I'd say Star*94's music and formatting is pretty much on point and proper for the format they are currently holding. They are actually sounding good in regards to their labeled format now that they've "found themselves".
ADULT CONTEMPORARY / SOFT ROCK
If you're looking for a proper adult ac that also cares about their listeners and updating their music with the times amongst other more important things, I'd recommend checking out KESZ - and I say this because while there may be other good / proper variety AC stations out there,
KESZ is the only one I can personally recommend while the others I can only judge by what they sound / look like music wise. Maybe, as some have been suggesting here a few times, it's time for another soft rock type format to arise here in Atl. to stir things up a bit. I'm not exactly sure what B98.5's specific format sound is since I study mainly the rhythmic, dance, and top 40 styles, but if there is no Atl. station playing the variety AC music listed below:
Train - Hey, Soul Sister
Daughtry - Life After You
Fugees - Killing me softly
Lady Antebellum - Need You Now
Script - Breakeven
Katy Perry - California Gurls
Mariah Carey - I'll be there
Lifehouse - Halfway Gone
Uncle Kracker - Smile
Beyonce - Single ladies
Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
Lady Gaga - Paparazzi
Colbie Caillat - Bubbly
Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me
Taylor Swift - Mine
Black eyed Peas - I gotta feeling
Rob Thomas - Someday
Timbaland / Onerepublic - Apologize
Savage Garden - Truly madly deeply
Jason Mraz - I'm Yours
Gwen Stefani / Akon - The Sweet Escape
Kelly Clarkson - Because Of You
Daughtry - September
Shannon - let the music play
Adam Lambert - Whataya Want From Me
DHT - listen to your heart
Coldplay - Viva La Vida
- WITH a decent amount of new & older non rock/pop rock leaning AC material as well as the pop rock sound added in, then maybe this is the next format someone should consider working on for Atl. Once again, this is the only city out of all I've researched I see talking /complaining repetitively about the state of their AC, and maybe it's just a coincidence or strange phenomenon, but it also just happens to seem to be the only city where the AC station playlist sort of backs up the complaints.

IN RADIO:
We've got to stop this lack of passion and this type of thinking where when it comes to business, it's "f... everybody and everything else - as long as we're getting paid and winning it's good enough" attitude that has pretty much... well, taken over America. In ALL areas of life, there are ways to make money IN ADDITION TO being passionate and making things more live & fun in any business - IF this is what the people running the business / assignment truly want. I've seen both the passionate fun over achiever riskers and the "lets settle only for what works, as long as it's good enough" earn enough money to bring home the food and provide a roof over their children's heads. As some of you can probably tell, I don't think like the "normal" person. I tend to think outside the box and see/do things in a different way because this sea of sameness is also what has helped to kill radio (and many people - instead of them trying to think of new ideas and change / improve the situation with what they have, people rather sit back and accept it and use "that's the way it is" as an excuse for mediocrity and unhappiness). I'm not even sure why people complain about the same songs being played over and over when... everyone really knows that's really not the point... but to explain why people say one thing when they really mean another, this is stepping into the complex multidimensional ways in which humans have been mentally programmed to think and operate... and that's a whole different topic. A station can have a large creative playlist, but if it's programmed in a boring or odd way, or has "poor delivery service", it really makes no difference, so the size of playlist, what exactly they are delivering, or just having a bigger variety - alone - really isn't the point (in many/most cases).
(DELIVERING) QUALITY PRODUCT vs. JUST BEING GOOD ENOUGH
Well, I could say much more, but..... I wont. I'm sure I'd even offend the President and the entire administration with what I've said so far. Anyway, those are just my opinions. In life, there are *those who are risk takers and try to be better than they have to be (also the trend setters and people who are remembered) and *those who play strictly by the rules and only care about the cash, even if it means mediocrity and accepting "good enough" (with an incredibly long list of excuses why it must be done one way). Both types of people need / want the money & success just as much as the other. I always make sure that if I choose to just be "good enough" to get paid, I prepare myself to accept criticism from others who expect me to be better - especially if what I'm doing is affecting other people's lives. I also know to make sure I don't just deliver what I'm supposed to, but to provide the BEST DAMN QUALITY of whatever I am delivering if there are people are on the receiving end of whatever I'm delivering.

Before complaining about the amount I've written, keep in mind the following
1. There are no laws, commandments, or regulations requiring you to read and think. You decide..
2. Since no one's talking about or thoroughly pointing out these things in a serious matter, I might as well.
3. I will not reply to anything I perceive as a nonsense rebuttal.
It's time to stop complaining, bitching, and fighting and
START DOING WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION AT HAND.
