my final thoughts/predictions on 92.3 (for now)

As I write this it's just past midnight on sunday night/monday morning. I don't expect any changes to occur until about the 15th(probably monday the 16th). The metal show which usually airs on sunday nights is off the air until the 22nd. Also, sweeps are being played stating that while the "new 92.3" is under construction, they'll be dj-less and in "random mode". Both of those tell me it's going to be a little while before any changes are revealed.

They've been playing sweeps that says "the future of 92.3 is up to you". What does that mean?

No dj's. Is this because there are going to be whole-sale changes to the on-air staff or because the "powers to be" don't want the details of the "new 92.3" leaked over the air before they happen. Or is it a combination. Keep the changes secret and there's only going to be a few changes.

Dumping the WXTM call letters for WXRK. Why? Is the "new 92.3" going to resemble the old K-Rock in some way, or is just Infinity/CBS wanting to keep the call letters on the air?

I fully expect the "new 92.3" to be some form of alternative. If today's any indication, they'll have a huge playlist with a great deal of focus on older alternative. Personally, I love the way 92.3 has been sounding today. If this is the way the "new 92.3" sounds, that'd be very cool.

Regaurdless of what 92.3 will eventually be, hopefully they'll stick with it for more than 3 months.

Also, still no indication of change on their website, and all the jocks are still on there.

P.S. What were you saying OA on the Mighty Blog of Fun(tm) about stuff happening when you go out of town? ;)
______________

Can't leave town for 4 days...

:D

What's posted here is pretty much all I know about this right now. I have ways to listen to local programming from out of town, but 92.3 is tough for my little unit to pick up...

Now That's Random!!

Okay, I was just about to comment on how lame the "random" was on 923....until I went and looked at www.yes.com HOLY CRAP....actually looks pretty cool...kind of like a hybrid modern rock/classic rock thing going on. Traveling Wilburys?? WOW. Anywho, it lists them as K-ROCK 923 on www.yes.com, don't know if that means anything. Haven't gotten a chance to listen much today since I've been at work....what I heard to and from work didn't sound that crazy (Coldplay, SOAD)....but that playlist on YES is all over the place. I wouldn't think that CBS would allow all that classic rock on 923 considering its in the same market with 985. So I doubt it will stay that way unless there is another format flip in the works over at 985. Hmmmmmmm.....very interesting indeed.
______________

Re: Now That's Random!!

If you did a search for WXRK on Yes, you got the playlist for the New York station that is flipping to Free-FM tomorrow.
______________

WXTM Grrrr I mean WXRK new sound??

It sounds the same as it did a week ago!! It seems to me they are completing there evolution into a full blown alternative!! Now they are just rebranding it! My bet is in a week or 2 all the DJs will be back and the station will be runnin under the 92.3 X name like before or more then likely the 92.3 K-Rock moniker!! I wish them the best of luck in this stunt and I hope they can really make a go of the Alternative format in Cleveland again!!! The End!! LOL

Yeah....I figured that out as I drove away from my house a few moments after posting

*takes a moment to wipe egg off face*

Okay, I feel better now.

I heard a message from Kim Monroe over the air while driving home tonight. Giving out her desk number for people to call her and tell her what they want in a station. I think that's pretty cool....however the message to me had more of a "throwing your arms up in the air out of frustration" sound to it. All of these tweaks and changes and flips in the past few years, and still the poor ratings, and still the same people in charge. Good luck to Kim and Nard, hopefully they get it right this time.

My quick .02, hopefully they realize that their last ditch effort needs to distance them as far away from WMMS as possible...obviously going head to head with them doesn't work (even with a far superior morning show). Cut way back on the active rock, spin a deeper variety of older alt. rock tunes (even back into the 80s) and get more airtime for new cutting edge alt. rock artists. Take a listen to some of the west coast alt. rock stations and see how they do it (although it is worth it to note that none of them are exactly ratings giants in their markets)...seems they've already taken a liking to KBZT/San Diego's "It's About The Music" moniker.
______________
