Yeah, and most 40+ guys could care less about listening to a guy who has more metal in his ears and lower lip than the rivets in a tail assembly on a 747.
I don't disagree with your take on the lower-demo appeal of Roth.
But remember. It ain't about the look on radio: Young, old, clean or pierced. If is were, the freakish Stern wouldn't be the self-procalimed King of All Media. It's about what comes out of the speakers.
Half the guys on Buffalo FM radio are "out of the demo," including the guys on Kiss and the Edge. The aging-gracefully & gray-rockers club on 97 Rock is about the only in-demo air staff in the market. Maybe WYRK and WHTT, considering the upper end of 25-54 turf.
By the way, who's got the big shares 18-54? WYRK, WGRF, WKSE & WHTT. Stations staffed by aging, experienced ENTERTAINERS who are broadcasters.
Roth is as much a freak as Stern in the looks department. But Stern wins hands down when it comes to entertaining. He's an experienced broadcaster and a maven when it comes to promoting himself.
Roth will last about two years at best, by which time Mancow or maybe even Shredd & Ragan will be ready to go national.
