My Gripes with Graham's Show

Alright. Just a few thoughts.

1. This show airs on 96.9 FM Talk. Why are they using a World War II era ISDN line? Sounds like garbage. Whats the point of having an FM frequency.

2. Graham. STOP SAYING THE PHONENUMBER SO MUCH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. "Lets go to Adam calling in at 617-822-1969. Adam youre next on 96.9 FM Talk". You should give the number 3 times a segment, not 3 times per call.

3. Converse with the caller. I just heard him talk to a guy...he ended it by saying "Thanks for your call. Here's why youre wrong...". LET HIM RETORT. Talk radio is about CONVERSING. Not alloting them 1 minute of time to talk.

4. Graham COMPLETELY comes off as an outsider. COMPLETELY!! Jay...the line was a little blurry...but Michael reads news articles verbatim and doesnt say anything conversationally.

Im not a big fan of Hannity, but Hannity would be better than this. Hell. Give Graham 12-1, and have Eagan and Broude on 3-7. That'd be alot more entertaining. Yeah so they've been talking about Fishercats for the past week, but still it is ENTERTAINING.

Hmmm. Lets take bets on how long Graham stays in his post. I call 5 months.
______________

Exactly--as I've said before, people don't converse. Have heard reg. talk
and sports talk hosts do this. Who did 'RKO have on at one point from 9-noon,
McCarthy and Vigue? The caller would talk for less than a minute but wouldn't
be heard from again, with them.

Howie is talking on 'RKO now and he IS conversing.

The New Hampshire ballclub? (No, I know you mean the other kind :) )

Congrats to WTKK for making the right decision on a replacement for Jay Severin.
Thank you Greater Media!!! Sign him up to a long term contract like Imus.
:)

Hello WKOX.....where's that upgrade, there's territory to be grabbed from 3 to 7.

LOL

Remember?...

> 3. Converse with the caller. "......The old TALKNET back in the Day? Dr. Harvey Rubin! He used to do this move, some pathetic mope would call in with a sob story for 10 seconds and Harvey would pot them down then dump the call and then drone on for 15 minutes! Hilarious! Must be taught by some bottom feeding out-of-a-real-job "consultant" ;) "

Mine too...

It's not THAT bad. I've been listening all week.

Total agreement. God, that sounds AWFUL! Give the phone number a rest. Remember how Gene Burns used to give out the phone number on WRKO back in the day? "266-6868 is the two-way talk telephone number. We invite you to join us".... now that was a bit repetitious too, but at least he let a couple of callers talk before going into phone solicitations. With Graham it's just overkill.

He's got a few issues to work out. I sure hope he's able to settle in and smooth out some of these glaring deficiencies. I think he's got some good opinions on things (but his blind support for Bush and the war is irritating me)

I wouldn't say an outsider. Just not very polished. Give him a few weeks and see if WTKK management reigns him in a bit.

One hour shows don't do well.. they need a 3 hour block for TSL. We tried that at IRN (in fact, they still do it, although News & Views is up to 2 hours now)

January 1, if certain things don't get ironed out. Too bad, cuzz I like him.
______________

Can only think this Graham is a temporary stop gap. Seems that 96.9 didn't want to invest in anyone "live and LOCAL" who might take hold while they work out the Severin deal.

Still in all, it is a terrible choice. Graham just doesn't belong in a major market like Boston, but if Boston radio in general keeps going in the same direction it has been headed for sometime Boston will no longer be a major radio market.

I expected more out of WTKK. This is a big disappointment. Perhaps, this is a signal that Great Media will eventually drop the talk format.

Give the Guy a Chance

I've listened a bit to Michael Graham and although he's not the best talk show host ever, he's not really that bad either. I don't really know why it's all negative about him on this board.

Give him some time. It takes a while to adapt to an area and I suspect that over time he will improve. If nothing else you've got to respect him. He took a stand on something he believed in at his old gig and held fast to his principles even though it cost him his job. I don't know of too many people in radio that would do that.
