My meeting with God

Well I was able to get a little closer to God earlier when I tuned into 990. Anyone know what's going on?

Thom Bailey got shut down Monday at 12:20.

Station went to gospel. Still doing some high school stuff. But otherwise, it's all dancy disco-ish rappish gospel. I heard some preaching, too.

Bailey is insisting to the former staff that he's learned his lesson, and he's going to relaunch in 60 days at 990. But everything will be different this time. Yes. You betcha.

"You LEARN something when you run a station into the ground, don't make a blip in the ratings, then alienate and disgust an entire city with slimy behavior." I think it was DaVinci who first said that. It was him or David Sarnoff.

So who currently holds the license for 990? And are they still in bed with 700? And finally, is the new 890 part of that group as well?

Thom's too busy posting on this "so-called board" to be getting his stuff together. Bitterness only hurts you, Thom!

Thom Bailey needs to work at aplace that suits his knowledge, skills and expertise. A sewage treatment center comes to mind.

So is this Thom Bailey guy Dave Scum's last joke on the FCC and DFW radio? I just don't get it: two owners and the same issues. There's got to be more to this than meets the eye. Is there any other stations in DFW history that's been like 990?

Nah, Dave Schum musta left his handwritten Operations Manual for the next sucker to study. (Including Chapter 26, "If All Else Fails, Relaunch.")

Then again, it is better to have 990'ed and lost, than to have never 990'ed at all. ::)

And it's always the innocent victims that suffer the most.

Reminds me of a typical tote-the-note car lot, where the owner makes more money taking in large down payments, knowing that he'll be repossessing the car a few months later...then gets the car back, cleans it up, takes in another large down payment on it, repo's it again, etc etc etc. Thom's done, now on to Dick and Harry (Hari?)

Which of the three Thom Bailey statements gets the biggest laugh????

1. "Hello, radio station owner. I know I didn't pay my lease for over six months and am hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt to you. I know you just shut me down. Do you mind if I start another sports station on your frequency?"

2. "Hello, radio investor. Kindly fork over half a million dollars for this outstanding investment. Incidentally, you don't mind if I begin the return on your investment by taking half the money and paying off my PREVIOUS great investment, do you?"

3. "Hello, former radio employee whom I have never paid. Great news. Through some sort of Vulcan mind trick, I have reached radio management nirvana! Apparently, the inability to generate a ratings point or profit--EVER--while being the worst morning show personality in the history of mankind on earth has miraculously shown me how to do it properly this time! Wanna work for me again?"

Genius analogy, Mike.

The folks behind Rejoice Musical Soul Food have taken over the leasing of the station. The music sounds real good right now. I just heard a LIVE AND LOCAL female morning personality on 990. I hope they do well and give KHVN a run for their money.

The new AM 990 does sound good, great to hear some old DFW jocks that use to be on the air back in the day like Keith Solis, Cedric Bailey, and Dewayne Dancer aka Donovan. At least good thing about is the station cover Dallas both day & night, not so lucky for Fort Worth, but I guess Fort Worth has KHVN and Dallas has KFCD as far as the Gospel audience. From what I'm hearing Rejoice is looking for a new buyer for the syndicated Gospel format so hopefully that pans out, and if they have a good promotion campaign the station could do pretty well. You can check out Rejoice's website at www.musicalsoulfood.com

I have worked with all three... this is music to my ears (no pun intended, but would have been nice.)

990 is being syndicated from the same location as the Pat Summerall Show, and Kate Delaney's American Tonight show... There are no jocks LIVE from the studios at Preston and LBJ as far as I know, but the local end of things are coming along I am told.

There has also been discussions that they wish to continue some of the GAMES that were aired from High Schools and Colleges-- but nothing set in stone yet.

I would like to say THANK YOU For those who have posted on here, and have been kind to those of us that chose to work at 990 while it was the SPORTS FAN-- we all know that sometimes there is guilt by association, but we tried to maintain our integrity, and our honesty through our shows and our interviews.

See ya all down the road...

Just a thought!

Dave Michaels is total, 100% class. 'Nuff said.

I think the gospel programming may have to do with an FCC edict asking 990 to perform an "exorcism" of the frequency by giving it a jolt of gospel sound!

FINALLY!!!! ABC's "Rejoice" has made it to the DFW (well, Farmersville) airwaves!! JamzUSA, are you listening? I'm not particularly a fan of the format, but there's been a gaping hole for it around here for a long time...and that armchair programmer instinct in me has always believed it would work...CONTEMPORARY gospel music with a light, positive, CONTEMPORARY message and no screaming preachers or heavy-handedness. I just wish it'd made it to an FM, but beggars can't be choosers. If marketed correctly, it will bring in the 30+ black females, who don't have a whole lot of choices on the dial (just extremes in all directions...Top 40 R&B on KRNB, or intense religious stations like KGGR, or "white" music/religious stations like KLTY.) And yes, glad to hear Dewayne Dancer, Keith Solis and the old KNOK-107.5 gang back on the local airwaves again!

So, as far as the ABC Radio Networks formats within local earshot, we have KMAD-Whitesville~~I mean, WhitesBORO~~ ("Classic Rock Experience,") KLAK-Tom Bean, TX ("Today's Best Hits" when not live or voicetracked,) and I guess KDOK-Tyler is still running "Timeless" (the former "Stardust" format that is half-Stardust and half-Memories now, minus the much-missed Buschardt touch.) Any others?

I've always wondered what might happen to KLUV if someone ran ABC's "True Oldies" on a full FM stick. It's really an awesome format, and has an 11,000 song library, with about 600 in regular rotation. Sure, it's canned, but if you're really into oldies that don't always make someone's 300-song playlist, it's good stuff. Former "Memories" PD Gary Reynolds programs it (with Scott Shannon's direction, of course.) Hmmm...I know a frequency somewhere around 96.7 FM that could benefit from something like that...not a full stick, but full enough!

REJOICE, FOLKS!!! It's a GREAT day in Farmersville!!!! ;D

They are LIVE and LOCAL in the mornings. Keith Solis does mornings on the network, but I heard 2 ladies on the morning show this morning as I took my son to school.
