I wish Mix 107.7/Dayton would dump the 80s but they are stuck there. Oh well...at least I get to listen to AT40 the 80s every Sat. morning.

I know the signal can't compete with 'NCI but if it was up to me I would blow the station up and go Top 40 and borrow an old name from Cleveland and call it "1079 The End".

Then I would make all the liners and jingles to say something like this:

"The end of boring repetitive radio"
"The end of the same songs over and over again"
"The end of corporate cookie cutter radio"

Actually it doesn't even have to be Top 40, with those liners it could be just about any format.

A corporation owns the station...did you think about that?

And that company needs to get advertisers to buy spots.

If you want to hear your favorite non-hits, Steve Jobs has an iPod for you (Nano has a TiVO-like FM tuner that you can pause and rewind). Or you can pickl up a CC Witness mp3 pocket recorder/player with AM and FM tuners.

BTW, 1079 did best as Star...but Spring 2003 ratings for oldies were Top 10 ranked with a 3.4 as I recall.

Of course many corporate stations try to project a corporate-defiance attitude sometimes, e.g., "the suits in the home office told me we couldn't play these songs, but they're not listening now so here goes..."

Of course I thought about that but Saga is tiny in comparison to the giant CC so it's all about the way you spin it. Hey, I like many here would just love to have something special to listen to over the airwaves of Columbus again. I understand that the good old days of radio is pretty much long gone but it doesn't mean that we can't still have hope and dreams of stations like 92X and Hot 105 coming back and taking Columbus by storm again one day.

On a side note, I'm not holding my breath and I keep my ipod in check.

IMHO, the only radio station I listen to anymore is Fly 92.9 in Dayton...they're the only station that makes me occasionally shut off my MP3 player. If I could actually pick up Mix 107.9 i'd probably listen to them too. NOTE: I LOVED Hot 105/Hot 107, later known as Kiss-FM. Too bad the owners at the time blew up that great station to try the crap "Arrow" format.

Hot 105/107 was indeed great radio, especially relative to budget and signal.  That said, Arrow 105.7 actually got better numbers than other stations of equal signal quality (that was before Jacor bought it and moved it from Marysville to Hilliard).  Certainly a helluva lot better than current disasters like 103.9 (even if you allow for the fact that revenue for Sports and Talk can sometimes outperform ratings).

alan613, trust me, there is absolutely nothing special about Mix 107.9 so you're not missing anything by not listening to them too.

I disagree though. I think Mix 1079 is very fun.... they program to Columbus and they're really interactive with Facebook, Twitter, and they seem to be live quite often. Their imaging stays updated and they spend a lot of time on it. I rather have Mix 1079 than 1077 in Dayton.
