"My Network"/ My Texas

So now that Fox has announced the 6th broadcast network, "My Network" TV, where will it land in your market?

Mine:
Lubbock...
I'm guessing the current Lubbock's WB22 (KWBZ) will become Lubbock's CW22 and UPN Lubbock (KUPT 14) will become "My Lubbock"... but who knows for sure!

I know Los Angeles will play out like this:
KCOP 13 will become "My Los Angeles" and KTLA 5 will become the CW.

How about DFW and Houston? I think the news story I read stated that an independent station in Dallas will become an affiliate of "My Network." Do they mean channel 21?

More likely KDFI 27, seeing as how they're Fox-owned. As for Houston, all signs point to KTXH 20 (also owned by Fox) joining the new network.

Just saw the press release, KDFI and KTXH will be affiliate stations...

So will CW33 move in with CBS 11 in Fort Worth or will they stay in that ratty building they are in now? Where does that leave channel 21?

A) 33,if they're smart, will move to Cowtown and set up shop. That building on carpenter needs to see the good side of a wrecking ball.

B) From the way I understand it, CBS Dallas will still retain the ownership of 21.

Channel 33 and CBS 11 are separate companies that have nothing to
do with each other. Another division of CBS just happens to own
half of the CW.

I'm not optimistic about that at all.
Somehow, I think that MyTV will need to gain a whole lot of momentum before Bradmar decides it's worth keeping 14 as general programming, and not flipping it back to "Shop At Home" full time.

I also think that Fox was a bit slow in having MyTV ready as a backup network, imho. They should have seen the writing on the wall sooner, imho.

Yup.

KDFI's commitments to the Rangers and Stars will result in numerous pre-emptions.

I'm not sure either one of you quite understand the whole CW deal with CBS and Tribune.

Tribune owns Channel 33
CBS owns Channel 11 and Channel 21

CBS and Warner Bros. co-own CW and signed a deal to have Tribune run the network on their stations. In non-Tribune markets where CBS owns a second station, the second CBS station will run CW.

Channel 21 will be an independent. They'll run more Mavs games, movies, syndicated shows (like repeats of 24), and perhaps some news from sister station CBS 11.

Fox will have no problem with those pre-emptions at all. The most recent edition of Broadcasting and Cable magazine shows KDFI as the 5th highest billing independent station in the country, thanks to the Stars and Rangers games I'm sure.

Tested, I do :) Im just saying tribune dallas needs to move the whole shooting match to a new location(maybe to sundance square, build a storefront studio). I interned in that building a few years ago and its a dump, the neighborhood is shady with plenty of "adult activities" within walking distance. I mean, every other tribune-owned station seems to take their product more professionally. They all have top-notch morning and evening newscast, Esp. WGN and KTLA 9. I would figure that tribune would want to sink some money into the dallas affiliate and make their news department a leader in the market.

I wonder when the "new" network signs on 27, will we still see our daily dose of Happy Days, MASH, Hawaii 5-0 and..MAAAAAAAATLOCK ;)

I wonder if this may be what saves KCEB from going downhill in Longview when the WB shuts down?

BTW, anyone know if they've finalized the selection of the Tyler/Longview CW affiliate yet?

Well... I think that Ramar will use My Network over The CW because: 1. It's free and The CW is not, and 2. My Network's relationship to Fox

I hope that Lubbock will get The CW, but I wouldn't be surprised if My Lubbock shows up on Channel 22, and 14 goes back to being SAH. I really like some of the WB's programming... so I hope we get a CW affiliate!

If not, I might go back to cable.

CW affiliation

Broadcasting and Cable says the folks at the CW are just now getting material out to other interested stations and groups about affiliating with the network. Don't expect any major deals for a few weeks. After that, it could be fast and furious.

"adult activities within walking distance".. shouldn't that make it easier for their photogs to go shoot the latest shooting, stabbing, dwi wreck? :)

Here's the problem with KDAF right now: they are in a ratings free-fall. It's not just the network programming, it's the whole station. A year or so ago, they looked like they might fight to beat KTVT in sign on to sign off numbers.. now they're lucky to match KTXA's numbers.

The news numbers have led the charge downward. Put another way, KTXA's Dr. Phil repeat at 9pm regularly has more viewers than KDAF's news. I think KDAF needs to start by getting new anchors. As much as I don't care for the guy, Scott Sams would be a huge boost for them. So would Michael Rey.

As for channel 27, there's no reason why Happy Days, MASH, Hawaii 5-0 or Matlock can't remain on the schedule. Obviously Matlock will have to move, but that shouldn't be a problem.

Heres my break down on WB33:
A) Tom Crespo has the same expression no matter the situation, be it a fiery plane crash or a puppy adoption piece. Its rumored he never blinks.

B) Terri Chappelle is pretty much hanging onto the job because she isnt getting any offers (shes old).

C) Bob Gooseman is a great meterologist, needs better tools and staff to work with, I cant imagine staring at fred barnhills eye everyday

D) Bob Izryk, nonissue..he can be replaced.

Frankly, I think we have an amazing pool of anchrors and reporters in this town to pull from...The main issue in the beginning is tribune didnt take advantage of that when they brought their cast on air. I hope once they become the CW, they really look at the local media landscape and start offering top dollar to attract decent talent.

Hi everyone:

Umm....First off, I'm sure this is just a simple typo BUT that should be KTLA 5 (NOT 9 - KCAL is on 9 in LA). WGN is on 9 in Chicago though.

Hymph....He may be a good meteorologist when it comes to Texas weather, but he was nothing but FLUFF when FOX O&O KDVR 31 here in Denver imported him from KTVT 11. He couldn't forecast Colorado's weather even if he tried. It's no wonder KTVT let him go and no one else would give him an offer.

At least his replacement Chris Dunn is FAR more accurate. :)

I hope you aren't holding your breath! It took Tribune SEVERAL MONTHS just to acknowledge the fact that FOX O&O KDVR 31 even had a news operation (much less a 9:00 PM newscast that was stealing viewers from them!) here in Denver before they started tweaking things over at KWGN 2 (Namely adding a morning show. KDVR didn't do this for several months after KWGN premiered theirs).

Fortunately for KWGN though, they are located out in the suburbs (Denver Tech Center Area if I'm not mistaken) so it's not like they're in some rat-infested building with the "Red Light District" being a stone's throw away.

In short, I hope you get your changes. But knowing Tribune's track record we do here in Denver, it won't happen anytime real soon.

Just my $.02 worth :)

Cheers :)
