"My Network TV" coming to WATL?

It looks like WATL might not become an indie after all.

If you have not heard, Fox and News Corp have announced a new TV network called "My Network TV". The only confirmed affiliates are the Fox O&O's that were UPN affiliates, althought it will be available to any WB/UPN affiliate who is not going to be a part of the CW. The network is set to feature first-run programming.

Will WATL sign up? Makes perfect since to me.

It might make sense, but I don't see it happening. I'm sure Fox isn't terribly happy with Tribune for stealing away (in the top 3 markets - and a few others it shares with NewsCorp) the rights to programs currently airing on UPN.

The way I see it is Tribune has to deal with Fox, for affiliations in Hartford, Seattle, Sacramento and Harrisburg and 2 other markets (can't remember them right now).

Also, the CW thing was mainly between CBS and Time Warner. Tribune isn't an owner of it, even though Tribune is a stakeholder out of the process, just through their former affiliations of The WB with Time Warner.

Tribune stations in Atlanta and Philadelphia will be devoid of programming, and don't have a duopoly partner to borrow programming from. What they have are just - Maury, Montel(not on WATL) and Jerry Springer, Friends, SATC and Will&Grace reruns. WATL is slightly more fortunate with The Simpsons as well, but it's not enough to carry the stations.

In an article from earlier this year, Tribune mentioned possibility of selling weaker stations. If they were gonna sell to Fox, they might as well affiliate with MyNetworkTV to make the stations worth it to Fox.
