HUGE blow to KBWB. Best thing that could have happened to KRON (other than Young selling it!).

Huge blow to KBWB TV 20-Let the speculation begin.......

Definately a huge blow to KBWB and Granite Broadcasting. Now it looks like KBWB will be Independent again.Let the speculation begin..............

Could tribune purchase this station and the one in Detroit?

I wonder what will happen with Channel 4's 9:00 news and Dr. Phil?
Isn't that what they pride themselves in having?

What do you think would happen if Fox bought this station outright? Could that even happen?

Not gonna be Tribune

You were right, Cox and Fox were not the best of friends, but I don't see KICU as the sole big loser, I see BOTH KICU AND KBWB AS BIG LOSERS.A little more to KBWB than KICU only because KBWB will go from WB affiliate to Independent while KICU has always been and will continue to stay Independent.

KICU can live without a network -- they've been doing it for quite a while, and Cox makes a nice (if quiet) go of it with A's games, movies and re-runs.

I feel for the WB20 folk -- it's not been an easy go for those folks. Seems though, that with Granite's present financial situation, KBWB may have bigger worries than just being an independent station without choice.

KICU has lived without a network since 1967(originally as KGSC then in 1981 as KICU)

Again you are true. While Billh. has previously mentioned that Granite would NEVER sell KBWB to either TBN or Daystar, I'm sure if either of those networks dangled enough money in front of them, they would probably go for it. Personally I would not like this to happen. I would rather have them change to a Retro-type of programming(Classic Reruns).Another scenario, would be for Fox to buy KRON from Young and also buy KBWB from Granite, Move Fox to KRON and move My Network TV to KBWB and leave KTVU in the cold, but it probably won't happen, if KTVU has a lengthy contract with Fox.

Another scenario is virtually an all infomercial format. An equal number or slightly more independents are doing that, compared to the retro TV show lineup.

Check WMCN which serves the Philadelphia TV market. Though starting out as a low power like station from Atlantic City, it now covers the market with a great digital signal and almost full cable coverage. They couldn't go after their C.O.L Atlantic City very well, already serviced with WMGM 40 (NBC) for Atlantic City news, so they changed station's identity to be a Philadelphia station.

Different background than an existing station that just loses programming, but still comparable in that both are serving large markets with lot of competing stations.

http://www.wmcn.tv/

WMCN runs national infomercials during the day, but runs locally produced programming (though infomercial) in the evening.

Four years ago, they slotted Roseanne, 3rd Rock from the Sun and Cosby Show. They didn't have full Philly market cable coverage, however.

But, now with WGTW 48 in TBN's hands, WMCN's digital signal covering most the market, WMCN fully on cable throughout the market, WMCN could have been WGTW's successor as a Philadelphia outlet for reruns, or station for the leftover syndicated programming, and as the 7th commercial station after the ABC NBC CBS FOX UPN and WB.

However, they insist the infomercial format is making them profit, so they won't change.

I don't think it's a huge (and necessarily unexpected) blow, as other see, for KBWB/Granite. After KRON lost NBC, KRON was always out there as a contender for any programming. It's not like KBWB's WB affiliation was guaranteed forever. I bet Granite considered Detroit their leverage market, and they figured that would be the case for MyNetwork as well.

Given they are not getting My in S.F., will Granite sign for MyNetwork in Detroit?

Wouldn't KBWB benefit when the new CW comes to the market?

This has been answered on this board already. The CW affiliation is going to KBHK/44.

Because CBS (the "C" in "CW") owns KBHK/44
