My Network TV's New Fall Schedule

Or KCOP channel 13 here in Los Angeles can go back to being "L.A.'s very independent channel 13." (Remember that slogan they had from the early 1990s?)

Can't KCAL/9 technically call themselves "very independent" these days, compared to the other L.A. stations?

KCOP Brought back the Channel 13 branding in January 2006 until they joined MyNet in September as they joined the ranks of other soon to be independents in giving UPN/The WB the one finger salute by branding as independents, such as KBWB-TV in San Francisco which changed its name to from WB20 to TV20 and changing its slogan from "The Bay Area's WB" to "Completely Independent" while keeping its WB affilation

While I agree with what you all are saying, I can't help but think if they did get rid of MyNetworkTV, they'd just replace it with infomercials.

I am so glad I live in Chicago. With WCIU and the subchannels ME-TV and MeToo, I can't understand why this model is so successful in Chicago and doesn't seem to work anywhere else.

It would depend on the station, though--in the bigger markets, the odds of replacing two hours of prime time with infomercials are slim; more likely it would be other off-net shows or movie packagaes--or even some first-run material.

Okay, for the umpteenth time, My Network TV isn't going anywhere. It was created by Fox to fill the hole left when their 9 UPN affiliates suddenenly had no network. It fills the same need for dozens of other stations around the country. While it's not burning up the Nielsen charts, it's apparent it's a a success for all involved.

I agree with this statement. Despite the mocking that has been done about it over the years (and boy did it deserve it during the telenovela season), it does one thing and it does it right; it fills two hours of primetime five nights a week a heckuvalot better than these stations could've done themselves, mainly because syndicated drama outside of "Legend of the Seeker" is dead, nobody wants to see a film like "Red Heat" for the 352nd time in primetime (those awful movie packages were the bane of late 80s-early 90s syndicated television) when that handy Netflix "Watch Instantly"/On Demand button is ready to go, and it's certainly better than infomercials, allowing stations high quality reruns for a pretty cheap price.

There are a couple of markets like Memphis and Des Moines that gave up on it completely, but those were on stations where the owners weren't even trying at all and were complete non-factors in their markets. Otherwise it's held their ground and keeps a station in the game.

In Memphis WPXX 50 was carrying MNTV when it was on and ION at other times, which made no sense, since all that amounted to was infomercials and ION's afternoon programming. Now they've gone back to all ION, which is some better in prime time.

I'll admit that MNTV as it is now is probably better than what most of the stations that carry it would do on their own, although I still don't watch it.

MyNetworkTV probably didn't work out very well when they were doing soaps, but with syndicated programming, it's a win win for the station owners and News Corp.
News Corp doesn't have to spend hundreds of millions on producing programming by using syndicated programming.
Station owners actually have somewhat good programming quality and can sell 100% of their own ads from 10PM-8PM

KBWB then on October 8, 2008 at 10 PM changed it's calls back to KOFY-TV Channel 20 in it's 2nd incarnation.

"Monk"! Outstanding! I've been waiting for that show to come to broadcast TV. ABC aired reruns for one season and then a couple of times the next season, and then NBC was desperate during the writers' strike.

I've been wanting a murder mystery. "Castle" wasn't it, and my first time watching the show proved it. But I KNOW I like this show. I just never wanted to spend that kind of money.

I hadn't thought about this until just now, but will this make Monk one of the few shows that has aired on 3 networks (Depending on how you count MNTV)?

Don't forget Smackdown. It's currently on My Network TV--after it aired first on UPN, and then on The CW. Now it will air on SciFi this fall, making it the fourth network to air the show.

And if memory serves, Veronica Mars first aired on UPN, then moved to The CW. But CBS also repeated some of the first season episodes during the summer....

WWF/WWE Smackdown has ALWAYS been a broadcast TV staple, from UPN to The CW to MYNetworkTV. That 11-year tradition will come to an end when SD moves to SyFy in October. Since all I have is a DTV converter I guess i'll have to get my wrestling fix from my Netflix account. :'(
