My oldies/AC iPod

Hmm, I don't see Flashdance, Fame, Roll Me Away, We've Got Tonite, Heavy Fuel, Lady Writer, So Far Away, Money For Nothing, La Isla Bonita, or Conga anywhere.

Is the Overall list 60-80 songs?

You need some instrumental tracks as well.

Yeah, that list is missing some great tunes, but he does have a lot that I enjoy. "La Isla Bonita", my personal favorite by Madonna, 1987 smash! Instrumentals would add to the mix! "Lady Writer" (1979) is an incredible song. Personally, I think it's Dire Straits best along with "Sultans of Swing".

And you won't see most of those. Is that second one David Bowie or Irene Cara? Nothing by David Bowie will be in my list. There is a longer list I haven't posted. "We've Got Tonight" is one I could add. The Kenny Rogers/Sheena Easton version my be in the standards iPod which is another thread.

"Conga" should be there too. I'm debating "So Far Away".

"TSOP" and "Pick Up the Pieces" are there. Those are technically instrumentals.

The only Bowie I think might work among the songs ATSF suggested would be "Modern Love." Cara's "Fame," though, definitely has the right sound for the mix.

Look at my standards iPod and some of those are there.

I do have to add the T-Bones after hearing that yesterday.

Time Is Tight...........

All great instrumentals ATSF (i shortened your list so it wouldn't cut off), but I did see the other titles. Two great instrumentals vchimp could add is "Hang Em High" and "Melting Pot" by Booker T & the MG's. Those two are fabulous along with the above mentioned song.

I may have added some Booker T & the MGs to my standards iPod but I'm not sure.

But does "Wipe Out" count as an instrumental if it includes some intelligible vocals? IIRC the old Beautiful Music rule was that it could count as an instrumental as long as any vocals were not intelligible words, like the Ray Conniff singers singing "baa baa baa, doo doo doo..." instead of the original lyrics.

"TSOP" isn't an instrumental, then.

These are just some of the songs I should have included above. Amazingly, I made four lists back ten years ago, when the web site I was on limited the size of posts. And these songs weren't on any of them. Some of the songs here I put on lists of what I intended to add to the four lists, and just never did. I don't think any of these are on my standards list, but my intention was not to include any of the songs from there.
I see the point.
Sheb Wooley--Purple People Eater
You pretty much had me up to there, although "Popcorn" was at the edge. But the Purple song is where I vomit and tune out.

There are cases like "Susie Q" by Creedence where I am tempted, but there are just parts of the song I don't like, and I can't just put the good parts in my iPod.

Sheb Wooley's classic isn't nearly as bad as other novelties. Try listening to "Bat Dance" from 1989. Cannot stand that song!! And how that junk became #1 on Billboard is beyond comprehension.
