My, Radio Disney Has Really Let Itself Go

I don't listen to the station but for some reason, WQEW in New York manages to bleed in with WFAN (yep, all the way on the other end of the dial, don't know how that happens... and it's not the Mount Holly, NJ station, by the way). Anyway, this morning, I swore I heard them play Adele's "Rolling In The Deep." Not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Mickey and Donald and company...
 
They also play Colbie Caillat, Train (select songs), etc. I think it's a move to please the parent that is in the car with the kids. However, the pop-friendly dance movement (which was somewhat always on RD) has made the station a lot more accessible to teens too.

Pre-teens, Teens & Moms: plus, plus, plus.

Radio Disney is a straight-ahead pop CHR most of the day, and has been for a few years now.

As for hearing 1560 on 660...how close are you to WQEW's transmitter site on Metropolitan Avenue in Maspeth, Queens? If you're getting a lot of RF from 1560, it can easily result in an image 900 kHz down, because 900 is (2 x 450) and your AM radio uses a 450 kHz intermediate frequency.
 
Then again, Adele has managed to cross over onto many other charts, like AAA, Hot AC, Mainstream AC, even Rock charts, so why not Radio Disney? :)
 
I realize RD has been mixing in modern CHR tracks into their playlist for quite some time... Maybe it's me, but I can't comprehend hearing a station whose original mission was playing Yanni and The Wiggles spin a song with the lyrics "rumor has it I'm the one she's leaving you for"... :p
 
I wonder if as song title would prevent it from getting play on RD. "F*** You" by Cee Lo Green, "F***in Perfect" by Pink, "N***** In Paris" by Jay Z, or even "S&M" by Rihanna all come to mind. :eek:
 
Or, for that matter, Usher's "Climax"... :eek:

@Scott: To answer your question, this was nowhere near Queens. Midtown Manhattan, near Grand Central Station. When I listened to the legal ID and heard "WQEW" I was perplexed.

Yeah but would a clean version of a “dirty” song be okay for RD?
 
To my knowledge, none of those songs were ever played on RD. They are still pretty strict with lyrics. They even take out the "white kids" part of Hot Chelle Rae's Tonight Tonight...and I don't think they ever played BEP's I Gotta Feeling.

They tend to have "RD" versions, which I prefer for my son...but are extremely hard to find. I wish they offered some of the RD edits through NMS, PlayMPE, TM Studios or PromoOnly for high school-owned stations.
