My radio listening habits are changing...

From B101 to Cool 102. Local and I believe live.Listening to COOL yesterday.The jock on the air was talking about current wx conditions.

Cat country -It's live or somewhat current vt'ed.

The Bee's jocks in a box are boring me now with the generic here's something I can talk about on 50 stations voice over.

Why is it a Cape Cod station doing the same format as the Bee with a twist be local but the Bee is VTed with not even a weather forecast.how is this serving the public?When you can't even get a weather forecast.

Kenny, the answer is simple. B101 is owned by Clear Channel. If we had the better fortune of replacing CC with CBS, all of the stations in the cluster would likely be live and local. And while 'HJY is still local and somewhat live, it does not make up for the disgraces that are B101 and Coast.

From a musical standpoint, I've found myself listening (occasionally anyway) to 4 stations I'd never listen to ordinarily. WWBB has classic hits on HD1 and classic rock on HD2. WHJY plays clactive rock on HD1 and alternative on HD2. WAXQ 104.3 has classic rock on HD1 and alternative on HD2. WXRK 92.3 plays rhythmic on their HD1 and alternative on HD2. None were on my push buttons (except WHJY).

I listen to the 3 alternative HD2s and discovered that when one plays a lousy tune I am often able to nail a decent tune on the HD1. When the HD1 sucks the HD2 is often running good sounds. Therefore I wind up listening to one station for a period of time by flipping between the HD's, that I'd never listen to otherwise. The surprising one is WWBB. They have a very decent classic rock on the HD2 and I get a great deal more good music than I ever expected from that station.

It appears that maybe, playing complimentary music on the HDs can keep some folk tuned to one channel while also attracting new listeners. If WRXP had run alternative on the HD2 instead of smooth jazz, they'd probably still be with us.

CBS? WBCN, WXRK, WKRK (Detroit), WKRK (Cleveland), WHFS, WYSP, WPBZ, WXRK (again), WBUF, KROQ and KITS on life support... I don't know... Jesus may love them, but they killed too many heritage rockers for this kid.

I wouldn't call WPBZ a Heritage rocker. If anything, its format has moved from straight Alternative to a more Active Rock-type sound. My comment about CBS applies to the fact that its stations are mostly live and local. It is more than I can say for Clear Channel.

I agree. Looks like CBS drops the ball on a few plays, live and local isn't one of them! I forgot WNEW.

Cool 102 is unique and a good listen.

Why are we talking CBS as last time I looked, there isn't a CBS station in the Metro....they may bleed over; but none to be spoken of in the Metro. If you want them so bad, write or email them to buy a station in RI....

My favorite music station is 103.3 WODS in Boston. They play a great mix of 60's, 70's, and 80's including soul and disco plus 60's songs you don't hear on B101. It has some great live and local DJs. My second music favorite is Fun 107, I like it better than 92 PRO FM, because Fun plays a lot of dance and R&B music with some hip-hop and very little rock. They also mix in more 90's and 2000's music.
