My Reception of 850 KOA

I've gotten 850 KOA several times in the past couple years. In fact, I've received it twice last week and once two weeks ago. It faded in and out, but when it was in, it was heard over the rumble of WKGE and WKNR in the background. I have picked it up as late as April earlier this year. No special equipment was used, just my radio's ferrite bar antenna. I live in Eastern PA, so KOA is a 1,495 mile catch for me.

Ive gotten KOA in Hillsville Virginia a few times, but their signal is weak, in indiana KOA is a nightly catch, but oddly enough, KOA doesnt come in any better in kansas city, than in Indianapolis. and their is a spot in western CO where the groundwave and skywave cancel out,, oddly enough KOA gets nosiy around LIMA CO, just about 85 miles east of KOA...

KOA is -probably the strongest AM in North America,,, if not, its at least one of the strongest.

I've been able to hear KOA in many distant locations from Denver...however, I recall one night visiting gorgeous southwest Colorado, tucked up in the mountains, and barely able to listen to KOA at all!

You go through the Rocky Mountain national park and on the back side of the Rockies KOA is very weak in the daytime. By contrast - they were a regular daytime catch in Dallas before an ill-advised local 850 came on the air in Dallas. I can't imagine why there would be a problem with nighttime reception in the mountains, the primary signal path would be over the mountains, not through.
