Lovefool is only on 14 out of 131 reporters & 1985 on 11 out of 131. Are these songs stiffs? No. Are they huge CHR gold? NO. But I bet they work in what the station in question is trying to accomplish...would you agree? If so, than why do you feel the need to rip other stations when they play songs that aren't on a majority of other CHR's??

They do a request show at 5

That might be the case but this is a SCHEDULED hour. Look at the rest of that hour. It's what your typical CHR would play. You would never kick off the hour with something as of-the-wall as The Proclaimers.

I have seen some of the other sample hours from this station and this retro lunch/all request trainwreck just totally baffles me. Why in God's name would a CHR play this bunch of crap -

Alice Cooper - School's Out
Rupert Holmes - Escape (The Pina Colada Song)
K.P. & Envyi - Swing My Way
Naughty By Nature - O.P.P.
STOPSET
Jewel - Who Will Save Your Soul
Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Right
Deadeye Dick - New Age Girl
The Bangles - Walk Like An Egyptian
STOPSET
Backstreet Boys - Everybody (Backstreet's Back)
Cranberries - Zombie
Jay-Z - Can I Get A
STOPSET
LA Guns - The Ballad Of Jayne
Madonna - Like A Virgin

Ok so I don't know the market but I do know enough not to play any of this on a CHR.

It's called an all request RETRO lunch hour. I want you to pay close attention to the word retro. Go look it up, see what it means.
Since you brought those songs up and you claim to know CHR, you should know that a lot of CHRs still play "Can I Get A" by Jay-Z, and a few still play "OPP" by Naughty By Nature, especially the Hits Now stations. Beastie Boys "Fight For Your Right" is also still being aired.
Whats wrong wity playing 90s hits like Jewel's "Who Will Save Your Soul" or "Everybody" by the Backstreet Boys? They were huge in the format in the second half of the mid 90s.
I realize that you're just a boy, but a retro show focuses on adults. If CHR radio focuses by and large on 18-34 year olds, then a retro lunch oftentimes is aimed at the upper end of that spectrum who are working at an office, or are on their way to lunch in their cars.

Hey CHRles no need to be up your own ass man.

People who listen to a CHR expect to hear the hits (look up the word HITS and CHR). What they don't expect is The Pina Colada song (do any oldies stations even play this??!). By playing that song you are keeping one listener tuned in while another 100 tune out. What would you rather have? I'll take the 100 thanks.

Just remember - YOU WILL NEVER GET INTO TROUBLE FOR WHAT YOU DON'T PLAY.

My theory of the noon hour differs though, twelve noon is one of the highest cuming hours of the day, why play anything but the hits? I agree with taking a different approach, i.e. mixshow, midday countdown, but bang the hits no matter what. Who knows what new cume you could have punching in. Instead, you spend this entire hour playing 80's and some 90's tracks and calling it "old school." Besides, many Hot AC's across the country are dropping their 80's library, but one can count on the your station to fulfill their fix for Dexy's Midnight Runners, Bon Jovi & seasonal tunes like "Ghostbusters." Same with the 5:00 hour, another high cuming hour, why NOT play the hits?? Doing a different approach like the noon hour, i.e. mixshow, countdown, is okay as long as you bang the hits no matter what.

Right now Doc's station is doing a 4 day 70's, 80's and 90's fest and calling it an "old school" weekend. Anything goes formatically, from Nazareth to Naughty By Nature to The Time. It's NOT a good idea for a CHR, I don't care HOW small the market is! This is a good idea for a Jack (which is the format anyway) and MAYBE a Hot AC. NOT TOP 40/CHR RADIO!!! Your core demo is 18-34. Especially that younger portion. College students. The station they listen to for Rihanna, Justin, Kardinal Official, Metro Station and Katy Perry...suddenly decides they are going to mix in Kansas, Whitesnake, The Eagles, and whatever other crap you're playing on the weekend. INSTANT CHANNEL CHANGE! "What is this!?...sounds like my dad's station!!" STUPID STUPID STUPID! Congrats for sending your core zooming from 99.7 to 104.7, and who says they come back on Tuesday if they like what they hear on the out-of-market CHR (which is better sounding anyways).

I can't think of many instances where the conservatively programmed station didn't win by a large margin. Get most listeners very far from their "comfort zone" and they'll be gone.

Hey Truth!! Have you EVER said anything positive on this board? I doubt it. You're so much of a Truthsayer since you actually AREN'T a PD of a country station, you just do an airshift. Nice job lying about you resume. ;D

IF you haven't noticed, alot of CHR stations are also doing something very similar similar with Old Skool, Back In The Day, Party Song, etc weekends for Labor Day. Quit pointing out this station and bash all of them doing these weekends then!

NEWSFLASH: Some kind of retro lunch is the biggest crutch on small market CHRs outside of the night jock's countdown.
