I just wanted to send a HUGE congratulations to my "SON" Stroke being named PROGRAM DIRECTOR of my former home 97X. Stroke is a passionate individual and worked his way from an INTERN to now Program Director of one of the BEST Active Rockers in the industry 97X. Stroke and ShortBus, my other "SON" have done an amazing job and they have made DADDY proud! Keep CRANKIN it for Panama City & Dothan on 97X!
Again congratulations to Stroke!
I can remember cracking the mic on 97X for the first time when we launched it back in 1997. I was the first PD of 97X (then WTBB), Nothing but Stern in the morning and then me in the afternoon. But the station had a HUGE signal and sounded bigger than life on the air. We were the MTV station along with Island that year and we had every single ticket to the Aerosmith concert they were bringing to the beach. We were attacking Rock 103 (we called em Suck 103), we traded ANYTHING with the Rock 103 logo on it for Stone Temple Pilot tickets. We were a staff of one or two and we toppled Rock 103 fast. Over the years that station has the most stable/consistent airstaff in the market. After I left, Yoda, Stroke and Shortbus later on helped carry that bigger, and crazier than life, attitude on. Musically it evolved where and when it needed to. It's a great radio station in market that is constantly taunted for it's crap radio and bad mistakes. Stroke, have fun, do what you do and always think BIGGER than Panama City. Push the limits, never go over the line, but feel free to move the line whenever you want as long as you keep the license. It's great to see someone who has been dedicated to that station like you get the PD gig. Congrats my friend.
LoL Beaver - I remember you guys trashing Rock 103. I was still working for them and PFM at the time when you guys were doing that. I joined Island/97X later in 98. I had worked myself up to APD/MD of Island, but radio wasn't feeding the family anymore so I had to leave. Now that I've got a great job again, I'm back on the air part time with 97X and I'm damn glad to be there.
