My Take on BJ

I think BJ and his crew are purposely creating a slow build-up to a huge morning show. I agree with many of the other posts that BJ is very innovative in his approach to mornings. Someday, we will all reminisce about BJ Shea - just like our parents look back at the glorious days of JP Patches. Just wait and see..........

I can say that I'll be much happier LOOKING BACK at the days of BJ Shay. And I am thinking there will be a lot more time spent LOOKING BACK at the FORMER days of his show than there will be days OF his show. Yuck.

Would you rather have Robin & Maynard back on the air, or have a morning show "mailed" in from either LA or New York? Oh wait, there is Adam Carolla.
______________

Howard Stern did so horribly when he 'mailed in' his show from New York, didn't he?

YES. Yes, yes, yes. I can't wait until they reappear.

Meanwhile, yes, there is Adam. Whose first few shows this week have been spectacular. I don't care for the female sidekick (is it "Rachel"?) though- not much there. My only guess is she must be a looker. Which would explain Adam's hiring her but wouldn't do much for us in the radio audience!

They should just take any BJ show from the past 4 months and replay it everyday. Would you notice the difference? The phone screener is dumb, RR messed up, RR is an idiot, BJ love movies, Enumclaw, H-Hole, stoner prank caller...

Well if you are holding your breath you are going to have a mighty big case of the blueballs

Don't KID yourselves...

Entercom thought long and hard before giving BJ this gig. You won't see any kneejerk reactions here.

(For those BJ Shea listeners, I just used the words "long", "hard" and "jerk" in one sentence!)

Yeah, it's all a bit sophomoric for me right now. Hopefully BJ will get more into a morning show vibe with some real issues, news, information and guests. So far I've heard nothing but drivel and maybe it's because I'm over 30 but it just doesn't hold my interest during my commute.

Middays he had virtually no competition ... you either wanted to listen to non-political talk or you didn't. With Bob Rivers, T-Man and Carolla nipping at BJ's heels (and how many of his unemployed stoner listeners from the BUZZ even wake up before 11 AM?) I think he's going to have to add some substance to his schtick pretty soon or all those who are punching around to find a new morning show habit won't be sticking with BJ.

BJ is talented and funny...if he works a little harder for this NEW audience instead of phoning it in with the same old same old he did in middays, he has a good shot. But either way, you can bet he got at least a 2-year contract for this time slot. (Of course as Andy Savage knows, contracts can be bought out!)

I'm 39, I'm up at 5:00AM, not a stoner, and I've been a BJ Shea listener since he first started on The Buzz.
______________

You forgot "cackle cackle cackle".

I don't think you're giving him enough credit, I'm sure its really hard to make a 4 hour show out of yelling at your staff on the air.

Don't most people consider Howard Stern's audience to be the same slacker/loser/unemployed/teenage crowd that BJ Shea is supposed to have? KISW found a spot-on replacement then, right?

By the way, 2 to 3 million of Stern's listening audience had the gumption and funds to go out and purchase a seperate electronic device that requires a monthly subscription, in order to remain part of that audience.

There are plenty of people who listened to Stern every morning, who don't have the available funds to get Sirius, or don't think they will listen to it enough to justify the expense. For those, BJ Shea is the best bet for where they will go. If anyone else had ever been at one of KISW's listener feedback sessions that Dave Richards held, you would know that most of KISW's listeners had a complaint about Howard Stern: He wasn't local! Most of those folks listened to T-Man instead, but hate the music T-Man played. BJ Shea on KISW mornings is a win-win for Entercom.
______________

Being forced to replace a legend with what they have now is a win-win?

They keep a lot of Stern fans with guy who appeals to the demo, (certainly better than the other locals,) and they get to pick-up some station loyals who were turned off by Stern being out of market and tape delayed. Considering that they didn't have a choice in having to find a replacement, the replacement they chose had only positive attributes going for it. Hence, the choice was a win-win, from Entercom's perspective anyway.

Now, if you were a big Stern fan, (as I am,) and went and got yourself Sirius to follow the show, (as I did,) then you probably are going to be one of the inevitable losses to KISW. They are expecting some of that. If you are a Stern fan who hasn't gone Sirius, then you have a guy in mornings who should appeal to you. BJ Shea will never be Howard Stern, but he is of a similar vain. If you were a KISW fan who disliked Stern due to "un-localness" of the show, now you've got a local. If you are someone who dislikes BJ Shea on principle or reside out of the target demo, just listen to something else. Anyway I can think, it looks like a win-win, (albeit not a situation they would like to be in,) to me.
______________

Even BJ himself has admitted that he probably won't have the same impact that Howard had. He hopes to at least make a name for himself locally and possibly via live internet streaming.
______________

I wonder in the back of my mind if the reason Leykis was moved to tape delay and so late in the evening was per BJ's request, to help him have a bigger impact? Just a thought.

Re: Don't KID yourselves...

BJ Shea is a poor man's Howard Stern...a very destitute man. Time to get the Opie & Anthony show.
