I didn't live there long, but was there for tropical storm Alison, and I remeber the flooding caused by that. Please stay safe but shoot any looters on sight. Oh and I hope Treasures doesn't get flooded. <P ID="signature">______________

Re: Excellent job!

Watched the KPRC-TV stream through the whole experience and was impressed at the quality of the coverage. Even watched several times with the window hidden and was thinking that's what the radio audiences were hearing -- and the information through most of it was still not that dependent on visuals. As a former HOU resident, I'm very proud of the way the leadership AND the media handled everything. One of those occasions when media can be proud of its service to the community.

That said...I'll be very interested in feedback on how radio handles the event over the next few days. It was admirable to watch the New Orleans "consolidation" kick into action to combine competing stations simply to get info out to the folks. For example...is radio reinforcing the info about coming back (or have most people fled beyond the coverage area at this point?). Is there any coverage giving some expectation to the audience about fuel, power, utility status and what to expect in coming days?

Am hoping that's on the radar as it's the best service that the industry can offer. A little more helpful, I think, than keeping the "Jessica Simpson spins" up to where the record folks will be happy!! Good luck, everyone....

New orleans' Consolidation happened because One company doesn't have studios in the general area outside New Orleans but holds the EAS for the area and has a complete news outlet in the city (Entercon)... Clear Channel has the resources in the area BUT had no news outlet in the city.... So both consolidated for their own good due to damage and not being able to use their studios in town.

Houston, I don't think will have that problem (where operations will be forced to move away)..How long before normal? I don't know the market to know but figure it will be normal way before New Orleans ever will be...

I agree, it was wise for Entercom and Clear Channel to work together in N.O. They both lacked broadcast resources inside of NO and both needed to keep programming on air and inform people.. so CC sharing their Baton Rouge Studios with the folks that had the news resources (Entercom) made a very good choice.

All the Houston stations I could find on the web where on air.. Clear Channel's FMs did a mix of Music and info, their AM station went wall to wall with News..

KSBJ did a mix of news and info and music.

KRBE-FM did mostly news and took telephone calls and tried to help out, as the storm got closer they took calls and played music, also had sent resources to Dallas incase the "worse" happened so they could keep broadcasting..

KHOU Ch 11 and KRPC Channel 2 did an awesome job with coverage (watched from up here in Ohio)

I would say from a distant stand point, all the radio groups I could find online did a very good job at trying to service the public, I listened to a lot of 104 KRBE and they where taking calls before the storm and having people report where gas was and other necesessities and attempted to help even give other routes to help get people out of town.

Kudos to Houston Media!
