My trip through Little Rock

I passed through LR in the early evening last week. Went by the old homestead and spent some time listening to the radio. It's not really fair to compare stations in the evening, but the market seemed pretty bland. Listening with an engineer's ear, I heard some pretty average audio. No one really stood out. West Little Rock is pretty unrecognizable, tho. Lots of building going on out there.

LR is a pretty bland market to listen to. Not that bad, just a little bland. Why CC continues to allow those FM's with the big signals to languish the way that they do escapes me. As far as audio goes, the market is fairly average too. As of a few weeks ago the CC FM's had new Optimods on the air just running with presets. The others seem to be pushing things a little hard-especially at the Citadel stations. The Point has a different sound to it than Magic that I find to be a little less fatiguing to listen to but it is still a little 'much'. What is going on at WB101 remains a mystery-no stereo pilot, low audio and a scattershot format. Don't get that one.

Have to agree on the last two posts on this. Radio in the Rock has been bland for some time. Many reasons could be given, and discussed. Magic is not the only CC rock station to have problems, it seems to be that way in many of their markets. The appeal of the The Point has always been lost on me: overprocessed audio, bland, stale music. Yes, there are local and live personaities there but, you can recycle the same tunes so much.

While KABZ isn't a CC station, its a prime example of an underutilized FM. Once one of the top stations in Little Rock, this station has turned into a modern-day KAAY: a shell of its former self. I quit listening for the most part after FOX Sports Radio replaced Phil Hendrie, and the Conway stunt--never cared for the jerk in the mornings (prior to Tommy Smith's arrival).

Don't fret over WB101, figure the format will change again in the fall. Maybe, they'll reive Adult Standards or even bring back The Box (the infamous top 40 format that lasted 3 months on the former KXLR/KBOX in 1983) ;) Or Southern Gospel.
