Just returned from a 5-day trip through the Mississippi Delta. I didn't have time to listen to alal the great stations along the way, but here's what I heard:
WYAB-93.1 in Flora (licensed to Benton now I think) sounded like they were tracking a CD when I listened. The song played, faded out, a couple seconds of dead air, then another song. I listed for 30-minutes and that's all I heard. No spots, no liners, nothing.
WYMX-99.1 in Greenwood has indeed switched to BOB. MAX is no more. Only time will tell if the new format will enable them to crack a 2 share in their home county. WYMX has always been a waste of 100,000 watts.
WDTL-92.9 in Cleveland sounded better than the last time I heard them, but they only seem to run about 5 commercials, including Boyle Lumber in every break. No local morning show. Still lots of dead air and songs played only halfway through. Last numbers I saw placed them #13 in a 7 station market. That takes real talent!
WRKG-95.3 in Cleveland was simulcasting WDSK-1410 with all sports. They never ID'ed the AM. The AM also appears to be operrating on full power at night.
WDMS-100.7 in Greenville has been sold to a local car dealer. I hear that the former GM, Bob Ghetti, may be returning. That's sure to keep 'em mired in mediocrity for many years to come. Acually, they'd have to improve somewhat to be considered mediocre.
WFBI-91.5 in Greenville on air with EMF's Christian Rock format. It actually sounds quite good.
WMJW-107.5 in Cleveland still playing country, and beating WDTL, even with their inferior signal.
WCLD-103.9 still rapping and jiving. Jim Thomas (white guy) seems to do most of the voice-tracking.
WKDJ-96.5 in Clarksdale running ABC Hot AC. No local content.
WZYQ-101.9 Cleveland still off air. KZYQ-103.5 Lake Village/Greenville still off air. KRKD-105.7 Dermott/Greenville still off air.
WROX-1450 & WKXY-92.1 in Clarksdale are still running American Blues Network. Not much else to tell right now, but there should be a new GM soon.
