My trip to the CC studios

Today I went with my dad to the Clear Channel studios in Kenwood. I hung out with Lance McAlister for an hour or so in studio, then I went to where the producers were. There I met Greg Waddell, Andy Furman, and Darryl Parks. I also ran into Gary Burbank at the bathrooms. What I learned from my conversation with Parks:
1. WCKY is operating at 30,000 watts because of the fire, but should be back up to 50,000 today.
2. WCKY will not get rid of the God Squad.
3. Parks is toying with the idea of putting Homer on 1530 and AAR on 1360.

I'm quite certain Gary Burbank will be forever indebted to you for mentioning you met him in the bathroom.

They'd be crazy to do that. AAR is hugely popular, and needs the good signal.

Does Homer have ANY listeners???

Well According to Arbitron Ratings Homer Has More Listeners than AAR does as of the last ratings posted on R&R online. Not By Much but Homer does have More Listeners

AAR and Homer switch... could there be a twist?

Hugely popular? Not only is that poor use of English it is also very inaccurate. AAR is down at the bottom of "Hugely" popular stations like the 99.7/99.5 combo, WTUE out of Dayton, and WAIF. 1530 should have stayed with the 50s/60s oldies/God talk format with UK basketball.

Re: AAR and Homer switch... could there be a twist?

I completely agree. It's obvious that 980/1340 Homer isn't working in the Dayton market. Air America would be a much better fit for the Dayton area. I wonder what they would call the AA station and what lineup they would have?

AAR and 97.7/99.5 are the only things people in my part of town ever listen to (despite the bad signal at 97.7/99.5). WLW and WKRC are considered a joke now.

Ha!

Perhaps, Bandit, you could provide your zip code and those that make up your part of town, someone could run those zips for us, and we could all find out if there's any truth at all to what you are saying!

Lib talk is a loser in Cincinnati, would be a loser in Dayton (as someone below seems to want to do; it's a military town, you know), and isn't even making a good go of it in the much more friendly Columbus.

Bandit, you know people who are just as whacked as you are. Other kinds of people don't associate with you, so you seem to think they don't exist. Never seeing beyond your little world, you don't realize how small your perspective is.

Maybe among the people you hang with, bandit. But the ratings say otherwise. Politics aside, I think most of the programming on AAR is pretty poor and highly unoriginal. They are just ripping off all the ideas conservative talk radio has been using for years. Hardly "progressive" if you ask me. Same goes for their political ideology.

It is interesting how some supporters of AAR complain: If AAR was only on a decent signal! Wellllllll, WCKY is a VERY decent signal.

** Dont get me wrong.... I dont think that AAR should go off the air. It presents another side (which is good), albiet in a boring amd uncreative manner.

You and 10 of your best friends who think exactly like you do not make a ratings book. I'm sure Gary Condit's show on WKRC where he "exposes the Jewish connection" hs a gret audience among Ken Hoop's friends.
______________

Not particularly. 1530 gets out poorly, even in Cincinnati. Its signal has never been great in Dayton and is practically nothing here in Columbus.

Other than WLW, what is a better signal?

Just because 1530 reaches the Bahamas doesn't mean it gets into West Chester!
______________

Re: AAR and Homer switch... could there be a twist?

Well I respectfully disagree with both of you. I live in Cincinnati and get around the Tri-State area quite a bit and have no problems anywhere with the 1530 signal. The occasional interference from power lines, but that's all. Sure it doesn't have the punch that the lower band stations do, but it's pretty darned solid. Receive it quite well on my car radio in Columbus too.

At night the groundwave / skywave cancellation seems to kick in around Dayton and Columbus, but hey, I can get 'em like a local in Florida. That should make all the libs happy.....50,000 watts of Bush-bashing power covering half the nation. ;-)

I don't know, I was in Cleveland one weekend and 1530 came in great.

Thoughts on a *possible* 1360/1530 flip, and the 1530 God Squad...

Not to say that having Homer on 1530 wouldn't be a bad idea that shouldn't be pursued. But These two seem somewhat dissonant here - I dunno, maybe it's my personal feeling.

AM 1530 keeping the God Squad makes (dollars and) sense; I will never hold my breath on them giving THAT up. But how would that mesh at all with Homer?

I guess WWL/870 in New Orleans is able to do it, literally cutting into the middle of Sporting News Radio for fire and brimstone. But the start times of the 1530 God Squad have been so inconsistent the past few years, I'm unsure if that could work.
