MY TV and CW Network

Do you think MY TV Network and the CW network will disapear in the future? Since both networks are losing revenue and ratings.

I definitely do, but not sure how their successful programming will go on. A couple of the shows on CW are worth saving because of the younger audience that they attract, but I'm not sure where they will go. MTV may have an interest in picking them up, or perhaps ABC Family. MyTV at this point is a glorified version of Ion, and we all see how that's working out. Of course, if these networks fold, it leaves a lot of local stations with no network affiliation and thus no larger pool of programming to draw from. Ultimately the demand for a larger network may still be there with these local affiliates, if CW or MyTV get 86'd.

Why not first-run syndicated programs?

Well I could see the return of First Run Syndication, since ABC Studio/Disney-ABC Domestic Television producing Legend of the Seeker. The last First Run nationwide Syndicated (fiction based) was NBC's She Spies. Their could be argue that The Da Vinci Inquest could be consider First Run Syndicated (fiction based) as well.

I can see Gossip Girl, 90210, Smallville, Supernatural, Everybody Hates Chris, could survived if these shows moved into syndication or onto other networks. I think Everybody is produce by CBS. Reaper might do better if ABC moved it to first run syndication and could package it with Legend of the Seeker.

If the CW and MyTV both go away, I could see the return of old movies that aired
every night on the independent stations of the 70's and 80's(before even Fox existed).

I see Time Warner/Warner Bros. sticking with its efforts as its still a relatively new player in the network TV game. The CW itself might be reduced to a programming service someday, but I think they'd still want to debut first-run material and do something to promote other ventures through a terrestrial TV platform.

One of those 'ventures' is CNN: They've played footsie with CBS and ABC too many times with no deal for resource and content sharing. I wouldn't be totally surprised if they threw up their hands and said, 'Dammit, we'll do it ourselves' and try incorporating The CW somehow. Crazier things have happened.

Everybody Hates Chris is speculated by industry news outlets to be dead--no syndicated future to be had. CW has signaled it plans to exit comedy entirely, spelling the end of Chris (I'll miss it, even if many others won't), and the likely end of The Game, though there's been talk the producers have an idea to pitch it as an hour-long dramedy. A long shot, but they're taking the shot.

It was a very good show.

You ought to see what the protesters are doing on the official CW message boards. Tragic, as Mr. Omar would say. Tragic!

I'm sure they'll live on for awhile on cable - if not BET, then another co-owned network...

It seems My Network TV will surely bite the dust before The CW. This fall, My Network TV will have mostly reruns (that is, Mondays through Wednesdays)--and become a programming service instead of a true network.

Has syndication really been ruled out? They don't quite have the usual 100 episodes that shows entering syndication have (88), but other off-net syndicated shows have missed the 100 count as well.

Nick at Nite will start airing it this fall.

Wow. And the show's not even four years old! Even AMC thinks that show is far from a "classic"! :D

And an indication of the sign of the times is the fact that KWGN 2 here in Denver rebranded themselves as "The Deuce", has all but completely dropped all reference to being a CW affiliate AND has moved their newscast from 9:00 PM to 7:00, thus putting the CW Primetime schedule on a one hour delay. The station is newsless on the weekends though.

But considering that they are the local sister station to the (Obviously) more successful KDVR 31 (Our FOX affiliate), this move makes sense as by having both stations running news at 9:00 PM, they shoot themselves in the foot.

That said though, it makes it tough for Gannett-owned KTVD 20 (Our MyNetwork TV affiliate) to have a 7:00 PM edition of 9NEWS (Produced by sister station KUSA 9 of course) if they were thinking of moving off the 9:00 PM timeslot themselves as KWGN would have a leg up there.

Thoughts?

Cheers :)

It's very simple: News Corp created My Network TV to fill the programming hole on their owned stations caused by the closure of UPN. News Corp will keep My Network TV going for a long time. It may have reruns of old tv shows, movies, you name it.. but it will be there.
The CW has no such underlying purpose to it. Furthermore, the new owner of Tribune has made it clear he wouldn't have a problem ditching CW from his stations. If you're betting on the long term future of one of these networks, bet on My Network TV. It has already caught up to CW in the ratings and its programming costs are far less than CW.

Time Warner could have CNN produce a nightly half-hour newscast to be aired on CW affiliates. I can see Rick Sanchez in this role.

Another 24/7 news network that's been footsie with CBS & ABC has been FOX News. Fox News could do the same thing for either Fox or (If they want it & the Fox affiliate doesn't take it first) MyNetwork affiliates. I can see Sheperd Smith being moved off the cable newscast and reassigned to the syndicated version since FNC has a plethora of people who can anchor the one on cable whereas Sheperd is like the Dan Rather (Albeit MUCH younger) of Fox News.

Thoughts?

Cheers :)

They've cleaned up the "Game" spam on the CW message boards. Even the "official" thread where they moved most posts to is off limits to ordinary users.

I've been hoping The CW would flop just because I don't need to waste my time on that site. And yet I actually spend very little time there any more. So it wouldn't help.

Where I would really benefit is possbily getting an affiliate of Ion or RTV. Ion has an affiliate around here but I'm out of range and it's not on the cable system.

This could be a good thing for ABC Studios. In my previous post that if they Package Legend of the Seeker with Reaper and have it available for Fridays through Sundays nights then it might bring back the First Run Syndicated (fiction) series.

If there might be an New Star Trek (Reboot Series) It might work well in First Run Syndication as well.

Yeah - ASSUMING that this new series does one of two things...

1) Picks up right where the last Star Trek movie that featured the TNG cast left off (You know, the one in which Data sacrificed himself to save Captain Picard & Commander Riker is promoted to Captain & now has his own command). **OR**

2) Moves into the future at some point (Like maybe 100 years AFTER TNG, DS9 & Voyager).

If it reverts to ANYWHERE in the past, IT WILL NOT STAND A CHANCE OF SUCCEEDING.

Just my opinion...

Cheers :D
