Actually, in hip-hop today, I hear plenty of songs about sex, hookups, rollin' on 24 inch rims, candy paint, syrup sippin', but not much about drugs and violence (although syrup could be considered a drug of sorts). Count me as someone that really misses the gangsta rap days - I was a really big fan of the rap of that era as well as the acts that came out in the '80s. Whether it's a rapper with lyrics that are positive and uplifting or bleak and nihilistic, hip-hop definitely needs some new blood - it's becoming way too predictable these days.
