My version of a CHR

I have to apoligize, I am frusterated with CHR's right now (mainly in Philly)

Point is - Q102's Hot AC lean (they actually played a song from 2001 yesterday)

What's wrong with CHR playing a 2001 song. I listened to Kiss Chicago last week and they played an NSYNC song from 1998. My own CHR plays "Push It" (1987) and B.I.G. songs from the 90s.

We have a Hot AC. CHR's shouldn't go back a decade to play songs.

I think it depends on the time of day - if a CHR wants to get played in offices during the workday, it's gotta throw in some variety - people that complain about CHRs playing older songs probably aren't listening to them for 4-5 hours at a time

You don't want to be sitting in an office listening to the same 5 songs in power rotation every hour for weeks at a time

Not when the owner of the CHR also owns a Hot AC that already has a CHR lean.

The "CHR's shouldn't go back a decade" is just idiotic. Not only does it make no sense, I can't think of any stations outside the "hot hits" stations of the 70's that programmed that way. Every Top 40 and later CHR has had a gold playlist. KIIS Los Angeles still plays Billie Jean some nights. Hell, they played Daft Punk's One More Time just a couple of hours ago.

CHR's have a gold playlist, period, end of story.

WPST this past Friday:

Justin Timberlake - Cry Me a River. Song's 10 years old.
Kelly Clarkson - Behind These Hazel Eyes - 7 years old.
Britney Spears - Toxic - 8 years old
Heaven - DJ Sammy - 10 years old
Fighter - Christina Aguilera - 9 years old

And that's without counting anything around 5 years old, there was a good handful of those songs too.

Looks like a gold playlist to me.

They only played five old songs, a gold playlist throws in more then that. I'm listening to PST now on my house radio.

^I can't find an excessive number of gold songs on WIOQ either - Mr. Brightside by the Killers, Stronger by Kanye West, and Misery Business by Paramore, but none of them sound dated, and it's not any different than what WPST is doing ???

And BTW how can you hate WIOQ for leaning Hot AC and then go and listen to WPST (which also leans Hot AC)? WPST is playing Jason Mraz/I Won't Give Up, which isn't even in the CHR Top 50, and hasn't even gone for pop adds...

Actually, Q102 plays 3 of 5 of those on a regular basis.

Alright, I do like Q102, but would rather listen to Wired or PST, just to clarify.

I do think Q102 has a slight Hot AC lean compared to it's past few years, like Mix has devoleped to be more of a middle of the road Modern Hot Ac that the average listener may mistake for a CHR for a few songs (it really sounds like a CHR from 3 to 6 PM).

But, there is nothing wrong with CHR's playing songs from 2001, etc but not when the owner has a Hot AC in market, Mix and Q are very similar during some parts of the day.

But, I fear for Q102. Wired is gaining ground and has been leaning significantly more Pop the past few weeks, they're also throwing on commercial free and downtalking Q102. Ever since this happened, my radio hasn't been tuned to Q102 for an entire song. The selection on Q102 sounds overplayed after listening to PST or Mix, and I'd rather tune into Wired or MGK.

Can we at least agree on a few points here?
