My watchband broke

Where I got it replaced, it took a while and I heard at least five songs. There was Michael Bolton ::) and someone who sounded like Luther Vandross or James Ingram. But I also heard two songs that even Chuck would call standards. One had the words "Destination Moon". I asked later where the store got their music and they said Muzak, but because I didn't ask at the time, they didn't know what channel. They said they changed it from time to time.

I was in a Hilton Hotel in Bellevue, Washington recently. Their "elevator music" was amazing. Really! It was great Standards. I'm sure it was from a music service, but nobody seemed to know what it was. It was better than most radio stations though.

Was the "Destination Moon" song by a female singer? "Destination Moon" is a Dinah Washington song most recently covered by Canadian R&B/dance singer Deborah Cox (who did a tribute CD to Dinah Washington, of which "Destination Moon" is the title track).

Along the same lines, my great-aunt passed away last week, and in the main lobby of the funeral home at which her wake was held, I heard what unmistakably sounded like B/EZ music the way it was done in the '60s and the way it can still be heard on WKTZ. All symphonic instrumentals, no vocals. I didn't think to ask which music service they used, and I couldn't stick around to listen to it for very long. I did, though, recognize the song "Chim Chim Cher-ee" from "Mary Poppins."

BM in a funeral home? Wow, talk about serving your demographic!

P.S. Sorry about your grand-aunt's passing.

The Ames Brothers did a version of "Destination Moon," but it may not be the same song your are talking about. It was on an album with a lot of other "Space Age" sounding songs, none of which I can remember at the moment.

Yes, it was a female. I don't know whether Deborah Cox did it straight or tried to make it sound contemporary. I remember a TV special where today's artists sang the great standards, but they did it in the way people were used to hearing the artists, so there was no point in my watching.

That's weird. I have heard Muzak does funeral home music, but that doesn't quite sound like it would fit.

Bible Broadcasting Network does a lot of instrumentals when they play music, and that sounds like a funeral home should. Even the vocals are mostly very traditional.

And I'm sorry for your loss.

I needed to get the buckle fixed on the new one.

I didn't stay long, but I heard a song with the words "See you later, alligator. After a while, crocodile."

18 months. Maybe this one will last longer.

Nice "real" jazz when I walked in, but I went to pay a bill while the man put the band on. When I got back, Exile's "Kiss You All Over".

I didn't bother to ask. That's not middle of the road. That's all over the road.

Chimp, actually Exile's "Kiss You All Over" IS middle of the road if you are about 25 years old. There are GAZILLIONS of "harder" songs than that.

It depends on the "target audience" they are seeking.

PS Destination Moon by DINAH WASHINGTON is in rotation on "the Avenue" format. GREAT!
