My92.7

Any idea what Radio One is going to do with this station? Any plans for personalities? Right now it's TJMS and Friday and Saturday night remotes host.... no other live jocks. I hope the plan isn't to have a glorified jukebox... Charlotte is too big for that.

Isn't that what most radio stations are these days outside of the moring drive hours? That's why I have XM and a CD player.

When I look at their major markets, they all seem to have jocks on the air... DC, Baltimore, Atlanta, Philly, Cleveland, Raleigh, Detroit, STL, Houston... why not Charlotte?

ask Radio one. This company seems to do radio well only in it's home markets of DC and Baltimore. Didn't they destroy and then sell the heritage station they bought in LA?

This maybe Radio One's last attempt in the Charlotte market. They sold off LA, Augusta and Louisville. They only have 2 stations in Charlotte(My 92.7 and PRAISE 100.9), but I don't think they're making a dent in V-101.9 nor POWER 98.

I don't think My 92.7 has enouogh power to really cover the area the way V 101.9 does, correct? I would love to see My go back to a Jammin' Oldies format with some of the old WGIV AM folks that are still around, if they could get them, like Kenny Motown Murphy and Chattie Hattie.

I can remember listening to 92.7, when I lived in Winston-Salem, during its first days. It had a rock format and a landscaping commercial. The signal was weak, but reached some areas of Winston-Salem on a good car radio or a good home/portable radio with a good antenna. I think the tower has moved since then, but the signal is better than most think it is. I loved it when it was Smooth Jazz WCCJ. Praise 100.9's signal isn't that great though. CBS is willing to invest money at Power 98 and V-101.9 to make more money. If you want to compete against them, it will cost you.

The problem with the R1 stations locally is not R1, they are successful in many other markets they're present in. The problems in Charlotte are all a product of the GM, Debbie Kwei-Cook. She, like many GMs thinks she can play music all day and do the bare minimum and be successful. Jukebox radio doesn't work and that has been proven time and time again, why some people never learn is beyond me. Especially competing with CBS who like someone said above, is willing to spend money to make money. CBS doesn't always sound that good musically, but they are involved in the community and willing to do for the listener, the person who ultimately rates the station and determines how successful it will be.

I agree with urbanradio704. Jukebox doesn't work... especially in a major market. Why bother? You can't have a community presence when you have no jocks! If programmed correctly, with jocks, they can compete with CBS. How do you create a midday presence with the employed or an afternoon drive presence with the afternoon rush hour crowd? R1 continues to disappoint me.

My sources have told me that R1 Charlotte will be dumping Debbie soon anyway. I have spoken with the OM/PD, Terri and she's based out of Houston, and programs the #1 and #2 stations there but she also programs My 92.7. She says that many of the upper management of R1 has been getting complaints about Charlotte not being cooperative and supportive of the changes Terri is trying to implement, but not just from her from the people in Atlanta and Philly too, and it all seems to fall back on Debbie. I sure hope so, it's been a long time coming. Either way, I hear My 927 is planning on adding jocks soon, it's a funding issue, that's one of the reasons the format changes took so long in first place.

Told yall this maybe R1's last attempt in Charlotte. R1 Charlotte seems to be dry as hell compared to other R1 markets. I wish they would've kept Augusta.

This not their last attempt, but a change in management in Charlotte could be coming. R1 Charlotte recently got a brand new building, new PDs and APD/MD and they have plans in the works. The problem is the GM (she has to be one of the dumbest people I know) and the people she hires locally (mostly her family members). R1 Charlotte has recently improved, but that's because alot of the staff is outsourced. The Praise PD is out of Philly, My's PD out of Houston, the Production Director is out of Raleigh, and I think corporate is starting to see where the real problem is. I personally don't want to see them go, because I only listen to urban radio, and more than likely if the stations sold they would go white

Yes Radio One Killed The Beat (L.A.). Radio One station in Boston is on life support and it look like Radio One Charlotte will be there soon.
