MyCountry 96.1 Trying For A Nassau County Signal?

AllAccess has an interview with Phathead, WJVC's PD and morning personality.
He asserts that the new country station reaches the eastern 75% of Long Island. The LI radio veteran also stated, "We are currently working on the other 25% as we speak!"
Assuming he is serious about that and not just kidding, how could that be accomplished? Perhaps a purchase of WMJC? That Barnstable station remains mired in low ratings even with their Gen X format, but I do not know how well their signal reaches Nassau County. Are there any translators available that are not being used by WLIX?
If they could somehow succeed in serving all of Long Island, maybe parts of Queens and Westchester County could also receive them.

That would make total sense for them to want a western Suffolk/Nassau area signal, but why would it work now? Country 943 died or was killed by Barnie for having no heavy sponsors; they were giving it away as a bonus when you bought the other Barnie stations.

If JVC gets another signal into western Suffolk and Nassau it should go back to Party, so this better not be true unless they are getting more than one frequency in western Suffolk/Nassau.

Even though MyCountry WJVC has only been on the air for a short while, it has better overall ratings than Party 105.
I would also guess that the majority of people in Nassau County that like rhythmic/dance music are accustomed to listening to WKTU, and would continue to do so even if Party could be received better.
Country fans in Nassau County do not have such an alternative.
While WMJC 94.3 may not have done that well as a stand alone country station a while back, it could be different if teamed up with WJVC. There would be no additional programming costs. And with the two signals covering most of LI and better promotion, the station could become much better known, over a wider area.

party has much higher cume than country 96.3 although it is too early to see how it will play out.. Also keep in mind Party's signal covers only the east end, the least likely area for dance fans. party recently lost it's signal in Nassau County. wjvc covers much more of Long Island then wpty.

The difference here is you have an energetic hands on owner who believes in the product (Caarcchiolo) is excited by its already being successful (as opposed to someone who doesn't like country --i.e. Dave Widmer of LIBG and who killed it). You have an owner with 16 salespeople in his cluster and he is selling space, putting the station out into the community in all the bars and clubs, working with the local country bands, doing everything a country station is supposed to be doing. Carrachiolo will be very successful especially if he gets this into Nassau. About 12 Suffolk nightclubs/bars are now offeringn country...places taht wouldnt give a country band a booking last year are now calling, and its reaching into Nassau county too withn the new Bullitts in Bellmore and reopening of the Polish Hall according to what one band has been posting on facebook. In Suffolk BOTH Nutty Irishman Clubs are offering country one night a week in conjunction with the station, 4 rooms in yapahnk/Manorville/Riverhead have gone country, Biddy Spratts doing a country night, Eleanors, Holiday Inn Ronkonkoma just to name a few, all within a few weeks of the station's kick off. And of course Matty T has hung in there through feast and famine, and still is. There was a pent up demand for this and because Carrachiolo isnt Lazy, is hands on, is investing in his station...he is going to be successful with this. Just watch. I would love to see him do an LMA with 740 AM and bring country back there. Too bad the owner of 740 is difficult to deal with. In my opinion, as income comes in JVC needs to go at least 18 if not 24/7 with live DJ's to intereact with the audience. It's a fiercly loyal audience.

Welcome to the board, Talk Show Guy. Your first post here is an interesting one.
It is noteworthy that one country station can do a lot to help revitalize the entire live country music scene in a large region, such as Long Island.
I agree that a LMA on WNYH 740 could be an effective way to help bring MyCountry 96.1 to listeners in Nassau County and beyond. Its 25,000 watts get out well to considerable chunks of CT, and Westchester counties, in addition to Nassau. Perhaps the station will become available if Radio Cantico returns to a newly rebuilt WNYG. Of course the fact that WNYH must power down after sunset to about 40 watts is a drawback.

If 740 continues to be non compliant with FCC guidelines, and keeps garnering complaint letters, Carrachiolo could possibly just walk way with the franchise next time. He certainly could make the argument he'd better serve the community. He lives in the community where the station and transmitter are located and has been very active in political matters. He also is involved with many Long Island organizations and charities. It would be a boon to long island and no matter what kind of format he ran there..you know it would be professionally executed and he'd make money. Obviously, I DO hold the man in high esteem.

I wonder if they'd prioritize Party FM or WJVC if they got one Nassau County station. May be a little far fetched but 103.9 WFAS would be a good option once it moves.

Nick, it is probably not difficult to guess which station you would prefer to have rebroadcast in Nassau County ;).
But in the latest PPM's released a short while ago, Party's ratings are way down over the past couple months, while MyCountry WJVC's have held up. In the overall ratings, the still new country station's ratings beat Party's 4 to 1.
And as I posted above, I would expect that most fans of rhythmic/dance music in Nassau County are more into WKTU. Country fans in Nassau County have no where else to listen.
BTW, the other JVC owned station, tropical WBON, is rated even lower than Party. Would it not make sense for JVC to rebroadcast the station among its 3 that has by far the largest audience?
There are several stations in Suffolk County that have higher ratings than My Country, such as WBAB. But I believe they all have signals that reach much more of Nassau County than does WJVC.

Still puzzled at how crappy the airchain is on WJVC (WRCN as well). Imagine if WJVC fixed their audio they'd probably get even more listeners.
Country and Rock listeners generally pay more attention to audio quality than dance/rhythmic, yet Party has the best audio of the airchain. It really boggles me they haven't straightened out the audio yet on WJVC and WRCN, it seems they intend to keep whatever setup they are using.
And most of the time WBON has mono audio on a stereo carrier, though occasionally you'll get full stereo like last Friday.
Considering John C. is an engineer you'd expect him to keep on top of these issues. Or I must be the only one who cares about decent audio. It sounds worse than my most worn out cassettes...

I agree with Barry. For years we heard "no one on LOng Island listens to country" and we knew that was wrong. "we heard advertisers wont advertise on country" Carrachiolo is proving that wrong. Why go into Nassau and compete against a monster like WKTU when you have an unserved market with a wide demo from very young to old bastards like me who like todays country music. My bet would be he'd run with the country, cause as I said in an earlier post he KNOWS how to make a success of it.

Well then, why did they keep Party 101.5 on the air instead of changing it to WJVC?
