MyFi reception on an airplane?

Greetings.

Being ADD and OCD, you can probably figure out that I'm real fun when I'm flying. However, with O&A and R&F being on XM when I'll be taking a cross-country flight in the fall, I figured I'll have something to keep me occupied.

My question is this: How is the the MyFi's reception LIVE on an airplane? I'm thinking, since you're six miles closer to the birds than you would be on the ground, that the reception might be better, but I wanted to get some experience from other people.

If the reception sucks, I'll just record the shows for that day and listen to them while flying... but I wanted to ask before I went through that rigamarole.

Thanks for the advice.

The manual for my Tao XM2Go says that that radio has not been FCC or FAA accepted for use on an airplane and that it should not be used on one.

If you were to try it, you probably wouldn't get anything at all because you're flying in a metal tube and the signal isn't going to penetrate it... and if you were to start playing with antenna placement, a flight attendant is going to make you turn it off.

Better to just record 5 hours of the b-b-boys and resume live when you're on the ground.

I've had XM in-flight on AirTran and it's been excellent. Bring your own headphones because airline headphones suck. You won't get any XL channels on there, however.
______________

Being 22994 miles from the XM birds in a metal tube is worse than being 23000 miles away with direct line of sight. You could try listening to FM radio since it's possible to hear FM in an airplane. Just don't listen above 97.3 because the local oscillator will cause interference.
______________
