MyNetworkTV 2013-14 Lineup Revealed

MONDAY
8, Law & Order: SVU
9, Law & Order: SVU

TUESDAY
8, House
9, House

WEDNESDAY
8, Law & Order: Criminal Intent
9, Law & Order: Criminal Intent

THURSDAY
8, Bones
9, Bones

FRIDAY
8, Monk
9, Monk

Only a matter of time before they catch up to NBC, right? ::)

Sad part is MySpace (after which the Network was named) is long since a shadow of its former self and isn't even owned by NewsCorp.

They should change the network name to TBS (Timberlake Broadcasting Singer) LOL ;D

I started to lament about MNT's lineup not changing only to recognize that it actually has: Wednesdays and Thursdays are now filled with Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Bones instead of Numb3rs and White Collar.

I'll cop to being the Nielsen household keeping Monk on the MNT Fridays :D

And the terrible concept of "My (frequency) FM" (either used as a Jack FM clone or to cover up oldies stations) stations has also long died. I really thought in 2006 everything involving "My" was a stupid naming concept. Unless I own the station, it isn't mine, is it? ::)

Here's an idea: give the time back to affiliates and bring back the independent station, like what should have happened in 2006 to begin with.

would they put anything better on if that happened?

^The affiliates may have the potential to do better programming than MyNetworkTV. They could distinguish their programming from local broadcasters and cable TV companies by producing unique local programs and acquiring the rights to broadcast syndicated programs that have not been broadcast nationally in many years. They could even acquire to rights to broadcast programs from other countries besides the United States.

Looks like a good lineup to me. I still think 99% of the people on this board don't quite understand why this network exists.
Fox owned 9 UPN affiliates. They lost 2 hours a night of prime-time programming when the CW was created. Fox scrambled to reconfigure a planned syndication package of english "telenovelas" into a slate of network programming for those stations. They put a network name on it and offered it up to all the other stations that were losing either UPN or WB with the creation of the CW. They got all this done in a few months time and My Network TV was born. After a frustrating year of bad ratings with the english telenovelas, they switched gears to other original programming. They brought in wrestling, sitcoms and reality programming. Better ratings, but a higher cost. Finally, they decided to go the rerun route. It's cheap and gets better ratings. They also ditched the network classification and now call it a syndication service. (though it still acts like a network in most cases) It's a success for Fox and the affiliates.

What made you think 99% of the people on this board (were you referring to most of the members or visitors) do not understand why MyNetworkTV exists? I understood long before your explanation.

too expensive for groups like $inclair

I'd be for folding both MNTV and CW and giving the time back to the local stations, but like was mentioned earlier, would what would replace them really be any better. I'd be afraid that a lot of stations would go to more courtroom shows, trash talk, and infomercials. I'll admit that Monk would be the only show I'd watch, but MNTV is better now than when they were doing telenovelas and I can live with it.

Potential? Yes. Likelihood? No. If they wanted to, they would already be doing it.

Good local programming is expensive. I doubt a fifth-ranked station would want to put the local chili cook-off or a local anything, really, up against CSI, Dateline, and the other network shows. They'd lose money hand over fist on it.

and acquiring the rights to broadcast syndicated programs that have not been broadcast nationally in many years.

How many of those are there, really? Me-TV, Antenna TV, COZI TV, and Retro TV have largely locked up a lot of the older shows that people are actually interested in watching.

They could even acquire to rights to broadcast programs from other countries besides the United States.

MHz Worldview already does this non-commercially. Additionally, one would think if something like this were done, it would be done by a network, rather than 100+ individual stations. There are plenty of great shows made in Canada, Australia, and the UK, but a lot of the ones that are brought here do poorly and the rest never even make it that far. The ones that do come here and do well are shows made in the US but based on those foreign programs, like The Office. (I personally would have liked to have seen someone try to bring Little Mosque on the Prairie to the US, but I can already hear the protests...)

MyNet stations are practically independent anyway. It's just a syndication package.
And yet 90% of its stations still use the "My" branding and there are still subchannel services serving the purpose of delivering MyNet "programming" to local markets. Some stations seem to be having success airing news in primetime.

Exactly. If you want to get technical about it, since MyNetworkTV is a programming service and no longer a network, MNT affiliates are actually independent stations. Maybe not the type of independent everyone grew up watching, but times change.

Anyway, every time this topic is brought up, the discussion boils down to, "I hate that these stations have to show two hours of syndicated programs every night. They should give the time back to the stations so they can show two hours of syndicated programs every night instead."

So what? It's programming that's cheap to run and station branding that's easy to apply. There are subchannels serving the purpose of delivering all sorts of reruns and second-hand programming that don't send people into a tizzy. Why not go with a programming service like MyNetworkTV that has a bit of staying power, with shows that your average TV viewer has heard of, not to mention are less expensive to run than several hours of local news and the expense that comes with it?

I'm not quite sure why some people here are personally offended by MyNetworkTV's existence. Is it the silly name?
