MyNetworkTV still dying a slow and painful death

As we all know by now, MNTV has had a change of plans with its telenovela plan failing. Now Fox has plans to make MNTV a reality only network:

The article also mentions an Anna Nicole special will also air...:p

I still don't understand why Fox wanted to start My Network TV in the first place. If there wasn't any room for UPN and WB, why did Fox think they would do better with My Network TV? It doesn't make any sense. I don't care what type of format you put on it, there is just too much competition with cable and satellite.

My Network will stick around because Fox needs it.

Fox owns 9 stations that were UPN affiliates. Fox had 2 telenovellas ready for a syndication push when UPN/WB pulled the plug without warning. Making the telenovellas the basis of a prime time network was the quickest and easiest option for Fox and the other stations that were left with a 2 hour hole to fill in prime time. Fox was wise to make give the My Network affiliates a very favorable advertising split. I don't believe a single My Network affiliate has bailed out yet.

Fox is adjusting My Network's schedule now that they've had a chance to see how the telenovellas do and get some other programming in development. Keep in mind, it was just a little over a year ago that UPN/WB dropped the merger bomb on everyone. The fact that Fox was able to get any kind of network on the air in response as fast as they did is remarkable.

MY TV going reality? Well then it should be called Not-My TV. Man it just keeps on getting better. Message to the Charlotte MY affiliate, better to be an Independent!

I thought Fox already has a reality only network - it was called FOX.

Actually, they do operate a cable network called Fox Reality, and I imagine it's mostly on digital tiers if carried at all...

Yeah, no kidding!
Makes you wonder why it's not better for My affiliates to just run nightly movie blocks or extended talk and news programming? I can think of a hundred things better than MNTV, a station I watch only because they run classic Star Trek. And in a way, the signal is so bad, I sometimes wonder if it's more of hinderance.
