Myrtle Beach/Florence/Hilton Head numbers are out

The Top Ten stories, and comments:

Myrtle Beach:
WDAI
WGTR
WRNN/WQJM
WYNA/WGTM
WEZV
WWXM
WSYN
WYAK
WYAV
WKZQ

Not much of a shakeup in the Top Ten. Gator slips slightly but holds overall in the face of losing their PD/morning guy; WYNA/WGTM makes the biggest move in the Top Ten, moving from 8th-4th 12+.

Florence:
WBZF/WYNN-A
WYNN-F
WEGX
WMXT
WJMX-FM
WWDM
WPDT
WDAR
WCMG
WWKT

The Cumulus urban combo and contemporary urban rule, as always in this market - but WYNN-F drops to less than a 10 share 12+ for the first time in recent memory. Qantum's WEGX puts Cumulus country property WHLZ further in a hole, knocking them entirely out of the Top Ten. Classic Rock WMXT continues to trend upward, while AC WDAR continues its slide.

Hilton Head
WYKZ
WEAS
WLOW
WDOG
WQBT*
WNFO*
WIIZ*
WFXH*
WGZO
WGZR

* all tied for 5th 12+.

Clear Channel AC WYKZ continues its strong hold on the market, while Good Radio's Country outlet WDOG makes a solid move inside the Top 5, knocking Triad's WGZR down to 10th in the process. Triad's alternative WFHX makes a nice little bounce back to finish tied for 5th overall 12+.

Comments? Thoughts?

The two markets I keep track of being FLO and MYB it looks like myb really likes BOB with a nice bounce and from the looks of it FloTown loves is gospel music... Looking at the 12+ bob really took a lot of listeners away from 92.1 and from the looks of it Miller and company seems to be taking away listeners away from WYNN while at the same time helping cumulus sister station WYNN/WBZF increase their listener base... JMO CC1

My jaw fell to the floor when I read the FCC log about WKZQ/Myrtle Beach changing their city of license, but now, after seeing the arbs, it's just as well, does anyone listen to them anymore?

I see Hot 100.3 didn't show up good for the Myrtle Beach numbers. z93.3 Jamz in Charleston, SC beat them and their signal isn't that strong. Im surprised B 92.5 from Charleston isn't higher in the numbers close to where WWWZ is. WIHB has a real strong signal. I get them in the car often and have it on a lot while driving around.

And Im surprised Star 92.1 went down. Guess they took a big hit from Bob 104.9.

that is what it looks like... when I listen to radio we have BOB up here in Rockford and the only drawback is they both have the same play list, same kind of liners etc etc... Our bob is nothing like what is in Austin... CC1

So why is that a "drawback"? If the numbers show that they are obviously doing something right in their respective markets, then why try to fix something that ain't broke?

A Class A station in Allendale knocks out 106.9 & 96.5!!?? This is friggin insane! And a station serving Augusta tops 101.1? This is very, very strange.

Again, I must reiterate the absolute nonsense in HHI/Beu being a seperate market from Savannah. Lord knows, Triad should appreciate the ability to command higher ad dollars from being part of a larger market. Oh well.

I totally agree. The decision to split the markets was just stupid.

Arbitron would not allow Beaufort, Hampton and Jasper County to be brought into the Savannah metro. The stats from the SC counties did not meet the criteria to become part of Savannah. Plus a couple of the Savannah companies, Jerry Rogers and Cumulus, opposed the inclusion of the SC counties in the Savannah metro. The Hilton Head market was formed because that was the only way to get ratings data that included Hilton Head. Over much protest by the Hilton Head subscriber Allendale County was added in to the Hilton Head metro. That county has been the reason why Augusta stations and Allendale, SC stations show up in the Hilton Head market. Though Triad is known in all their markets for making incredibly stupid decisions they tried first to have Hilton Head included in Savannah and upon Arbitron's refusal to do that the Hilton Head market was formed. Rated markets are far more valuable than unrated ones. On the less than smart decision scale, did it ever occur to anyone at Triad that a station with the calls WDOG and the format country in the Hilton Head metro would cause mass confusion when they switched Gator to the lucky dog. Obviously not. Anyone who wrote in their dairy that they listened to the "dog" would more than likely be credited to WDOG and not WGZR. Not very well researched or thought out. That's the kind of incredibly stupid decision that Triad and their programming genius's are best known for. In the words of the Pogo comic strip "We have met the enemy and the enemy is us."

I don't see WMYB in the ratings.

How exactly, then, is Yes 94.5 going to do well? Will they take listeners away from WEZV? Smart.

I keep wanting to see WLOW fail. How bad is their music, exactly? No one on this site has commented lately.

105.9 (Myrtle beach) and 94.5 (Murrells Inlet) have the same playlist but 105.9 talks too much. WEZV (105.9) is the retirees information/entertainment station and "Yes 94.5" is the standard "Easy" listening station. Together they have the number one stations nailed down for the beach.

If you add them (105.9 & 94.5) together they fair well. But now since they are no longer a simulcast, you can't add their numbers together for Arbitron ranking purposes. This station (94.5) sounds strange. Diana Krall in a segue to Huey Lewis? It's not very focused. I think it'll do more damage to it's own sister 105.9 than it will 92.1.

I don't understand why they weren't listed together. Until recently they played exactly the same thing, in spite of whatever SCMidlands says. Unless SCMidlands thinks what Yes 94.5 is doing now is easy listening. And 105.9 FM never had too much talk unless something's different now.

One month to go and I'll hear both stations for myself. I dread seeing what was the Pavilion. Will my condo building even be there? They were tearing down nearly the entire block last year.

I'll bet it sounds strange. I think everyone will be hurt. Especially 94.5.

It's a big pile of dirt! I was shocked when I first saw it!
It wasn't as weird as I thought it would be when I first saw it. There was a good view of The Bowery and other businesses across the street. And of the ocean. But when I got out in the middle of it, it was just strange. Grass trying to grow in every direction.

Someone stopped and asked me (I walked throught the area a number of times) if this was "Broadway at the Beach". I hope I didn't get them lost. I explained that what was there had moved there, and they needed to go back up the street and turn on 21st Avenue. They turned up 8th Avenue, and I wonder if they just got on Kings Highway and went back to 21st Avenue and turned right instead of left? I just assumed they would turn around and go back up Ocean Boulevard.

As I said on the other thread, I didn't see anything strange about the music. The station IDs, on the other hand ...
