Myrtle Beach News Ratings

Was wondering who is #1 for local news in the Myrtle Beach/Florence market? As I saw a promo on WPDE saying they were beating out both WBTW and WMBF. I would think WBTW is #1 in the market. And new comer WMBF is looking good. Only bad part is that WPDE and WBTW started using a bottom news ticker as WMBF started with it. I don't see the point in following. So how are the ratings doing?

I don't know who is #1, but WBTW was the 800 pound gorillla for decades, all the way until the mid 90s. They had a great signal, the best newscasters, and that CBS network. WPDE is a good station now (ever since Dave Gilbert came to 15), but they have always been #2 in the market. WMBF is getting up there, and beating WPDE in some of their newscasts.

Since the market is so large (not just Florence and Horry counties, but parts of 16 others, almost all the way to Fayetteville), WBTW has an advantage because they are the established station in the area, and are on more cable systems than the other stations.

As close in as Pawleys Island, the Myrtle stations are duplicated by Charleston's, so they lose a lot of viewers in that area.
