MyRXP moving to 97.1 HD2

MyRXP, the on-line descendant of 101.9 RXP, is moving to 97.1 HD2 (Hot 97 is staying put on 97.1 HD1). This announcement was made on their Facebook page and their web site: http://www.myrxp.com/

Doesn't matter to 99.99% of their listeners that listen online, so they don't care about which station has it on its HD

True, and most of them probably don't have HD radios, either.

Is it on 97.2 HD2 already? Can't find a stream on myrxp.com, it's under construction I guess?

I'm assuming myrxp.com is under construction. I believe it is on 97.1 HD2 now.

MyRXP is indeed on WQHT 97.1 HD2, replacing Hip-Hop Gold. I just checked.
Fans of alternative/modern rock in the New York area now have 4 HD stations to choose from:

The Alternate Side, on WFUV 90.7 HD3 24/7, and WNYE 91.5 weekday mornings from 6 am-12 pm. Goes deeper than the other 3.

K-Rock, on 92.3 HD2. There is a weekly program of local bands.

The MyRXP broadcast on 97.1 HD2 discussed in this thread. Apparently it runs without jocks, unlike the other 3.

WAXQ 104.3 HD2 runs Clear Channel's The Alternative Project. This includes the program Sixx Sense, with Nikki Sixx.

I think Barry and I are the only two people in NYC with HD radios  :) .  Anyway I am glad that 101.9 HD2 is still smooth jazz and 106.7 HD2 is staying with country.

@Bruce: I think you and Barry might be the only two people in New York state with an HD radio. ::)

I guess WRXP's popularity after leaving the air last summer was big enough that Emmis decided to retain all of its insignia and plug it in on the subchannel of Hot 97 (which it owns).

I may be the only one in the state of NJ with an HD radio. Although it's tucked away in a drawer and has not seen the light of day in over 3 months ;D

You're not. I have 6 HD radios (3 of them are broken) and my girlfriend now has an HD radio.

nick has a gf now??? wow... congrats! LOL :p

I'm another HD Radio owner in New Jersey, and I have mixed feelings about this. I liked the Hot 97 Throwback channel, and although I miss having RXP on the main dial, we do have two other "alternative" options on HD. Wish they could've added an HD3 channel - or failing that, put RXP on 98.7 HD2. I'm sure their current programming has an even more limited listener base than Throwback or RXP.

Putting 'RXP on 98.7 HD2 is probably out of the question, at least at this time. It is leased to HumDesi Radio. Emmis is highly unlikely to cast aside a firm that is paying them money for the channel, to make room for a WRXP subchannel.
While it could possibly be put on WQHT HD3, the sound would not be as good. HD3's are broadcast in mono.
Emmis may have also figured that the Hip Hop Gold channel previously on 97.1 HD2 did little for them, except to drain some listeners from the regular WQHT broadcast. Even if it is only a few, given that they are constantly locked in a ratings battle with Power 105.1, they may feel that the rap oldies format was not worthwhile.
BTW, it is not clear at this point whether 'RXP will be on HD2 only and not streamed, like the smooth jazz on WEMP 101.9 HD2.

I still have my defunct Zune HD ;D

No streaming? That would be crazy ???!
I believe that the smooth jazz on 101.9 HD2 has never been streamed.
But they're not offering anything unique that couldn't be heard on countless smooth jazz streams.
The 'RXP that I heard on HD2 is also just automated music, with no dj's.

The 'RXP website presently doesn't offer streaming, but it still has streaming through its iPhone app. In fact, an update for the iPhone just came out a few days ago, and, yes, it's streaming. I have to think that's an updated streaming link, though Triton Digital is updating a lot of its apps right now.

The RXP stream can still be accessed through the TuneIn Radio website, and I'd imagine through their smartphone app as well. Why it's been removed from the official RXP site is a mystery - guess they're trying to get people to actually purchase HD radios?

EDIT: There must be some issues they're having, because there's been extended periods of dead air between the songs and ID's, including one that lasted several minutes. Reminds me of the transition from RXP to "101.9 FM New", actually.

Before I had posted that 'RXP on 97.9 HD2 does not stream, I did check the WRXP iPhone app. Weird as it may seem, the programming is different. While the type of rock tunes being played is similar, they are being aired in a different order. The lengthy pauses that are heard online are not present on the HD2. And unlike the stream, the HD2 is not airing commercials. Perhaps the on-air version will evolve into something more interesting, but presently it is just continuous music, with a station ID at the top of the hour.
With three other HD2/3 stations in New York broadcasting similar alternative/modern rock, the WRXP broadcast frankly seems redundant. Except for the music, it is nothing like the WRXP FM station that left the air last summer.

Hum Desi leases the 100.7 translator in Edison and feeds it with 98.7-HD2. I assume that once that lease ends, the translator owner will want to translate WPRB-HD2 on 100.7 since it owns that programming and I presume it must have paid for WPRB to downgrade to HD.

I doubt Hum Desi will want to continue just as an HD station since they'll be lucky to have 10 listeners.
