MySA/KSAT news article involving......

Today, an article in the newspaper reported the arrest of a 'Mike Lavender' for online harrassment of an unnamed TV news reporter. KSAT ran a story about 'spoofing' on Tuesday, w/o naming the reporter or her employer. Lavender had been accusing the reporter, on twitter, of having an affair with a married man and in one of the posted comments about the article, that major market reject Mike Taylor's name was alleged to be the "married man" and also that MT yacked about it and her on the radio. Since I don't listen to substandard radio, it was news to me. But what is really surprising is that nothing has ever been mentioned about this story, involving a local radio person, on this board, even if it was bragged about on air. No wonder MT made that lawyers office commercial about 'messy divorces', maybe from personal experience and for a discount? What about that ad about the DWI? Always wondered why anyone would leave a MAJOR media market to work in one listed as "OTHER". What a wonderful board, gossip, hearsay, lamenting for a past and tuesday afternoon quarterbacks a 1/2 late with their pants on backwards.
 
Awww come on 1st of 5. That isn't fair. You cant go out and throw out serious speculations like that without some sort of proof.

The law first and foremost is a joke. Second, if everyone involved were cashiers this would not have made the news let alone the front page of the Express News.

I think all this was blown up to be bigger than it really should have been. I do not know Lavender on a personal level but I want to wish him the best. All this public attention for a simple misdemeanor must be rough.
 
No speculation intended, just wondering, when no one else in radio does it. Is there any truth to the MySA.com comments? Is he involved in this news story and did he actually do what a MySA commenter posted? This board seems to be frequented by radio experts, but nothing was ever mentioned about this event, eventhough the subject was supposedly discussed on air on his program. Maybe the commenters on the MySA site know more about this than the experts on this one? Or maybe they are one in the same?
 
Chris and Jason were discussing it on their show in the 6:00 hour. They implied that they know the identity of the stalked reporter. They were sampling each of the newscasts with the sound off during their show to see if any of the TV newsers would spill the beans.
 
Online harrassment is no joke. It ruins lives and is in many ways worse now because the Internet is so pervasive in our lives.

I can see where you are coming from. I did not mention this out of respect. Poor guy is most likely going to lose his job over something trivial. A misdemeanor. If this blew over without media coverage he probably wouldn't have his job on the line. But today when his face was on the front page of the E.N. it pretty much sealed his fate. I am not saying he was not in the wrong because he was, I just think it was overkill. My 2 cents.
 
Dominique I appreciate your point of view. I hope you are being serious because this story has a lot of similar characteristics of what happened to Mike Bacsik but I don't think you had the same perspective at that time. Either way, I think your comments are commendable. The irony in this case is of course now everyone will know her name and his name and the other guy's name because she went to the police. I imagine this will probably doom several careers.

I wonder if this was the cheating male's wife who was posting on the reporters twitter whether that would have been a crime? Based on the news story it seems like the only reason the cops were upset is because he did it anonymously. Either way I think this ends up with two dismissals for Lavender..one in court and one from the Spurs.

I was being serious Tom. I would also agree this is somewhat similar. However, in Bacsik's case he made a hateful tweet that was a reference to a reoccurring radio bit. The people who did not listen had no idea of that including myself. Today, I fault more the radio station for allowing it to happen than Mr. Bacsik himself. Sure that sort of thing is frowned upon but certainly not an arrestable offense.

What Lavender did was in fact wrong. I will not deny that. I just feel it was taken too far. Sure, one could turn around and say the Bacsik thing was taken too far as well. I acknowledge that. However his hateful remark was aimed at a large group of people and not just one person in particular.

I had said this before... if he was a cashier this misdemeanor would not have made the media outlets. I am not defending Lavender cause I know him. In fact, I am not defending him at all and I do not know him. Just saying that it was overkill.

I'm not versed on this law or anything, but is insinuating that Mike Taylor was having an affair and that he has a DWI on his record behind the protection of an anonymous screen name without any firsthand knowledge that he ever alluded to it (since you never listen) equal to a criminal offense?
