Mystery Horror Host

When I was about 17..that was ummm lwje4fri[ years ago, there was a program on tv that had a host who called himself "GURU S. MALADY." He was the New Orleans male equivelent to "Elvira, mistress of the dark" I have never found out who played this character. I for some reason thought it was Dan Milham. Don't ask me why. Then I thought maybe it was our own Capt. Humble.

so 1. Does anyone remember this horror host?
and 2. Who was the real GURU????
I really don't think it was a mind altering medication I might have taken, that made this character up. I've tried to find out for many many years.

I remember seeing something about that in a pre-K issue of TV focus form the Times Picayune but only found one website that even hints at it and basically confirms what you said

http://www.gumbopages.com/neworleans.html

"Channel 26 was for many years "the independent station" in town, meaning lots of reruns and old movies (fortunately, some of them hosted by the unforgettable Guru S. Malady, whom Dan Milham would rather forget)."

You can email him personally but not sure if he would admit to it... But did find out he's a professional photographer on the side... http://www.pictureneworleans.com/contact

Channel 6 ran movies also. They ran Elvis movies every afternoon back in the late 70s the weeks of January 8th and August 16th. Birth and death dates.

Channel 2 in baton rouge also did this on Saturday nights

10:30 Sha na na
11:00 Dance Fever
11:30 Americas top 10--( I won a Sansui stereo from them in 1982--incidently the year my wife was born :)

12:00--Charlie Chan cinema
Abbott and Costello theatre
Mr Moto theatre
Sherlock Holmes Theatre
I also seem to remember some kind of horror thing like mentioned here..With some creepy guy hosting. ;D It wasnt the guy from WAIL 105 was it? He was kind of creepy too. ;D

If I may assist, all of you are correct on Dan Milham playing Guru S. Malady, in fact in later years when WGNO had the "N.O. It Alls" game show (during the tail end of their independent days) Dan Milham was a celebrity square guest and he did mention Guru S. Malady, I lucked out a few years ago and someone gave me actual TV footage of one of his "Christmas specials".

Here in Baton Rouge in the 70's, back when it was WBRT (now WVLA33), we had our own horror host - Dr. Shock and "Shock Theater". Portrayed by Ray Spruell...not sure if he ever did radio or not. He passed a few years back. Saturday nights at 10:00 or so..campy, bad movies....they still owe me a poster that I mailed off 50 cents for and never got.

You should try to sell that on ebay... :D

Depends.. some people take a very long time to answer emails I find... give it another week before pronouncing his unresponse.

Now don't I wish we had the TV focus Q and A back in the Times Picayune:)
