Who is the mystery station? I've got my idea that its a mid band location.

Umm, could it be a station that went on the air in 1965 in Northwest Indiana and moved to Oak Lawn IL about 5 or so years ago?

My best guess would be WYLL AM 1160, they are 50kw day and night, and their nightime TX is less
than 5 years old. They also filed with the FCC for digital notification in July of 2007. The digital app
is really the red flag for me, because to the best of my knowledge Salem is not that big on installing
IBOC on their stations, in fact when they took over WIND it was broadcasting in HD and they shut it off.

Their are a few more possibilities, WNWI AM 1080, they technically have city grade coverage day and
night. The other station I can think of is WNTD AM 950, also with city grade coverage day and night. The
only problem with WNTD is that I don't think they have done any upgrades on either of their TX sites in
quite some time. The reason I'm bringing them up is because they are owned by Sovereign City which
recently filed for bankruptcy.

My own guess is 1080.

In reards to WYLL, I thought I read they built the new night array with no capability to run IBOC. I've never heard them running IBOC either. However I don't tune them in regularly.

I don't think the ad says they're asking $10 million--I think the ad is (very cryptically) suggesting that the station "city grades" 10 million people. Stretccccccccching the definition of "city grade" just a bit, I think. There are a few that come close--the Big 4, basically (WSCR, WGN, WBBM & WLS) but I doubt any of them are on the block. Plenty of fairly big-signal AM rigs do cover 10 million people with their 0.5 mV/m signal, though--that's the signal you can hear if you've got a great radio and you hold it over your head and turn it JUST the right way...

Or if you're sitting out in a cornfield down around Gibson City with nothing to do but DX AM signals that nobody has heard for quite awhile!

I'd bet on 950 or 1080. Of the pair, 950 is the better stick, even if it does need some work. On the other hand, if you can snag 1080 for $1.50 and a Big Mac coupon, go for it.

1160, I don't think Salem would want to dump that station. 950 was just sold in 07. 1080 is a possibility as the parent company may need $$$, Think about 1200 WRTO. They have a CP to go 20KW. and they run the IBOC noise generator. Don't get confused on the digital, It could have a couple of CD players and the term DIGITAL is overused. How about 1690. Of course you could always call the broker, sign the statement and get the real answer.

It's not going to be any of the bigger signals like 1160.

WNWI does have considerably more coverage from their new Oak Lawn site than the old 250watts and site in Valparaiso IN.

The original site and coverage study had to protect WPON 1080 Pontiac Illinois, silent many years now.

It is by far, of the signals mentioned, the strongest on the north side of Chicago.
If I could get WNWI for $1.50 and a Big Mac coupon, I'd already own it.
Nothing against foreign language brokered programming, but it just makes for another frequency with no possible utility for me.
