N. FLA Processing is so bad

This is probably the most uninteresting topic but after several drives back and forth from Tampa to Jacksonville, I had to say something. Is it just me or are the Gainesville Ocala stations pushing their Optimods (or whatever unit) to the max & trying to outthump each other? The Buzz has to be the absolute worst and Q in Ocala is barely better. Cranking up the low end doesn't make you jump off the dial, it is tiring to listen.

KCountry sounds pretty clean, Wind isn't bad, and surprisingly, RUF-FM is one of the better processed stations. KTK sounds like they barely have any processing (I remember it sounding bigger and better when I was doing afternoons). In Jax, WSOS is painful to listen to. The Cox stations are all very listenable, esp. WAPE.

Guys, if you want to sound big, wide, and clean, put your processing up against FLZ in Tampa. If you can't afford or figure out what they have in their chain, don't push the equipment you have to the max! It reminds me of my high school days when I wired in two of my house speakers to the Kraco radio & added a cheap EQ to make it lounder. I got more volume but it sounded like total crap.

Rick, Thank you! I've mentioned the the WSOS processing to a couple of Renda guys on a few occasions, and they seem puzzled. When WSOS was Soft AC, the processing was excellent, not over driven, and very clean. Ever since they decided on Classic Rock, it's way over driven - somewhat distorted at times, at least it was the last time I listened. Probably an attempt to make up for the lack of a total market signal in Jacksonville. And, yes, I agree that the Cox stations are the best processed commercial stations in Jax!

A follow up to my WSOS-FM audio processing comments yesterday. After listening critically the last two days, while WSOS is still a bit hot, it seems like the audio has been adjusted to where the distortion I was hearing before has disappeared. Now, if they could only make Lex and Terry disappear! Sorry, I couldn't resist! ;D
