N.Y. PPM RATINGS RELEASED-JAN. 2009 1/8/09-2/4/09

Well, it seems that the new "classic rock" format on K-Rock is going nowhere either....they remained flat at 1.5 and are down from a 1.7 in December. No growth whatsoever after two years on the air, and cume shrunk as well.

RXP is also going nowhere fast...down from a 1.2 to a 1.1. No growth after a year on the air, and their cume was down as well. In fact, RXP is behind the likes of K-Joy, WALK, New Jersey 101.5 and WLIB. That really is pathetic.

Fresh, on the other hand, is back up to a 3 share, ahead of its main competitor, PLJ (2.7) and is fourth overall in cume in NYC.

CBS would be insane to take Fresh off the air and not K-Rock. Fresh, with some tweaking and its high cume, could be a major player in the market. K-Rock is going nowhere and will continue going nowhere with the direction it has taken.

Lite FM also fell back to earth, relatively speaking, keeping its #1 spot 12+ by only a tenth of a point over Z100. I continue to think that a CHR competitor could really do some serious damage to Z100 and it would be worth a shot, as it has not been tried in so long.

WABC up to 4.2 from a 3.5. When was the last time WABC had a 4+ rating?

I guess the problem for WWFS is that there are so many other AC stations with higher ratings.

WABC had a 4.2 in Persons 6+ in the November Book. In fact, WABC was over a 4 share for the first five months of PPM currency.

Other than Lite FM, which are the "so many other" AC stations with higher ratings than Fresh in NYC?

I don't think CBS would do what they did in Detroit. I could see one problem the Mets are on 660 while the Yankees are on 880. So if 660 was on 92.3 that means only the Mets could be on FM while the Yanks just get AM. And I am sure CBS Radio wants to keep the rights to both teams not giving them up to ESPN Radio or someone else.

With the numbers WINS pulls, you don't mess with it.

Look at San Francisco, though. KCBS remains on AM 740, but is now simulcast on 106.9 FM. As far as I know, KCBS's numbers were already pretty decent when it was an AM-only station.
