Hey Mike! Who knew you were a connoisseur, ham operator and a good jock to boot! You scored the hat trick! Figured I'd throw in a hockey metaphor with Sabres season right around the corner. I think all you guys conributed to an entire segment on eithe the Travel Channel or the Food Channel. Nice thread.

Bam!!!

Now, what about a good place for Beef On Weck, Mike?

Jim Pastrick (Visiting from the Buffalo-Niagara Falls-Rochester board)

Jim,

Welcome South Brother! Oops that's WSB (Atlanta).

There is a place you can get Beef on Weck it's called "The Mathews Township Grill" which is run by a family from Buffalo I believe in Mathews, a suburb of Charlotte. There is a fairly large population of former residents of the Niagara Frontier living here!

As a North Carolina Piedmont native (as is Tom Taylor), I must weigh in on what may be the most crucial question of the radio show: Where do I sample the best North Carolina barbecue? I'm sure the joints mentioned in these posts are fine, but many North Carolinians believe that Lexington Barbecue #1 located about 50 miles northeast of Charlotte (Hwy 29-70 South (also called Business I-85), Lexington (704) 249-9814) is the "Mecca" (no fatwas please) of pork barbecue. I've never had better and most of my Yankee friends in Washington to whom I've given this advice have been very happy they took it. The place is right on the South-bound lane of the highway and the huge parking lot is always full. There is always a line, but, again, it's worth it.
