NAMES OF '60s/'70s GROUPS OFTEN CONFUSED WITH OTHER GROUPS...

Two Temptations..the Motown group and the White group on Gold Disc, who had a super song titled "Barbara".

And, speaking (again) of Elvis, shortly after the King's death, a then-obscure figure named Ronny MacDowell recorded what I believe was the very first Elvis tribute song. And yes, he sounded just like Elvis.

Macdowell is so good..dick Clark used him as the voice of Elvis, in the Movie starring Kurt Russell as Elvis...[
Thanks. I drew a blank trying to remember that title.

Well, Lies by The Knickerbockers sounded more like The Beatles than The Beatles did.
The first time I heard Lies, I would have bet the farm John Lennon was doing lead vocals.

Tears for Fears' "Sowing the Seeds of Love" did the same thing to me.

Ruby Nash's backup group didn't like the name "Romantics" because it didn't provide the right image for them. Their previous name (before Ruby joined them) had been the Supremes. This was before Florence Ballard picked the name "Supremes" for Diana Ross' group. And Diana, along with Mary Wilson, thought that the name "Supremes" was too "masculine" for them!

The Romantics of the '80s ("Talking in Your Sleep" and "What I Like About You") apparently had no image problem with the name "Romantics."

And there were:
The Kingsmen - rock group who did "Louie, Louie"
The Kingsmen - the southern gospel group
The King's Men - '40s vocal group headed by Ken Darby, who performed on "Fibber McGee & Molly"

The Kingsmen - A group from Columbia University who changed their name to Sha Na Na.

I heard a DJ play "Candida" and say it was by Tony & Dawn Orlando! Amazingly no one corrected him & later he did it again. LOL
Kinda surprised that it never raised any red flags with anyone naming a girl after a yeast infection! Gross!
