Nancy Shack takes Howie to task for immigrant workers

Howie is going on about Mitt Romney's problems with possible illegal alien workers. Carr said that he saw his lawn care guy in the post office and took a verbal admission that the workers are documented. Shack said that Carr should ask for their i.d. Good for her.

It was interesting hearing Howie Carr taking such a hypocritical stand on this issue. He was all over the map, said he wants to send them all back to where they came from but he'll hire them nonetheless. His tone changed considerably once contractors started calling in explaining how they were going broke because they couldn't compete with "undocumented" labor. Just like Mitt, you can't have it both ways. Pick your poison.

Did Jay Severin even take up this story given how he licks Mitt Romney's toes every chance he can? If he did, I'm sure it was done in a way to discredit the Globe for running the story.

The Globe should be discredited for their obvious hit job on Romney. They could probably dig up the same type of information on Patrick and many other Democratic pols too but this was a pre-presidential run announcement strike by the Globe.

Pretty weak attempt. What's next? Romney ate at a restaurant that had illegals washing the dishes?

You're completely missing the point, The Boston Globe isn't running for president on an anti-illegal worker platform. This society is rife with undocumented workers but what a load of crap it is to say, "send them all back, build a wall" and then turn around and hire them to manicure your lawn. That was the point of the Globe story.

I'll bet they could dig up examples of Deval Patrick having hired illegal immigrants at some point in his life. Not that he's a saint but at least his stand on this issue was pragmatic, they are already here, let's deal with that fact. Either change the laws or enforce the existing ones.

I get it: the Globe should not hold itself to the same standards they ask of Mitt. Thanks. A spoonfull of b-lls--t really does help the medicine go down, Mary Poppins. ;)

You're missing the point. Mitt didn't hire illegal aliens to mow his lawn. He hired a legitimate company that turned around and hired a bunch of illegals. Based on this story, many of us could be burned unknowingly for the same thing.

As I said, it's nothing but a weak hit job and I doubt it will have much effect on Mitt's campaign. If that's the best the Globe could come up with after stalking Romney for months, then they are apparently poor reporters or he is pretty clean.

Boy, NH Ronin, with Eric F moving on, maybe you should be Romney's new publicist.

Get real. Romney knows that every inch of his life is scrutinized. He can't wave and smile at
undocumented workers and then be the hypocrite he is without getting caught. That's like the
police chief letting a drug dealer date his daughter..."Well, I never looked into the man's personal life."

Please. Lame excuse. Especially since the Romney thing is all over the national news. If it wasn't
a story it would've been ignored - but it is probably second to the Kerry joke fiasco in regards to
news knee-jerk response. Not that I think EITHER story warrants national attention, but that's the
way things are today. Real dumb on Romney's part - it will dog him throughout his "exploration" of a
Presidential run. If he couldn't win against Kennedy for Senate, he will not do well nationally.

Romney just doesn't have what it takes. The second thing that will dog him is that he was an absentee Governor

So Mitt should have demanded to see every worker's green card personally? Isn't that racial profiling which the ACLU and all the lefties are so against?

The moonbats can't have it both way, Var. If Mitt had checked and all the illegals were rounded up he'd be toasted even more than he is now for being mean-spirited.

After all, they were just doing jobs no American would do and have to support their starving families!

Romney fooled all of us when he ran for Governor. He came across smooth as silk during radio interviews, giving listeners the notion that here was a guy who knew what it took to make things happen. The Globe won't scuttle his presidential ambitions. His record will.

LucyLu, I don't know if you are or ever were a comedy writer but you've made me chuckle more than twice with your comments :D

I doubt Mitt's record as governor will hurt him much. He had no chance of success from the start with no veto power.

If an empty suit like Kerry can get within a few thousand votes of the finish line, someone like Mitt has just as much a chance...especially amongst female voters who swoon over good looks and a nice head of hair. Bill Clinton, anyone?

Joe's right again (mostly). The dodge spin on this is "how should I know." But if I'm going to hire a company to do something at my house, I tell them no illegals allowed. Why wouldn't a guy campaigning for Prez on the issue do the same? This is a symbolic story that highlights Mitt as the cardboard candidate... looks perfect on paper, but in real life there's no connection between the image presented and a real human being who gives a crap.

After the first two posts in this thread that mention Howie Carr, I'm wondering what the rest of this conversation has to do with radio???

1)This is a topic ON local radio that is also about what's currently PLAYING on local radio - the talk about Mitt.

2)Mickey is right, Lucy Lu is hilarious. She should write one liners for radio stations around here.
They certainly need 'em.

3)I don't think anyone is asking for racial profiling; what ANYONE who wants to be President needs to do
is to hold any company he hires to HIGHER STANDARDS. That means Mitt Romney needs to send an aid
over to ANY company he does business with to do checks on that company. The COMPANY he hires
has to have HIGHER STANDARDS. The COMPANY needs to do the background checks to see that these
people are documented workers, ROMNEY has to make sure the COMPANY he is working with is clean.
This Sgt. Schultz mentality of I Know Nothing NOTHING is for the birds when someone wants to be
PRESIDENT. Especially since they proved they were an absentee Governor who lied about staying here
to take care of business. Great local radio topics. WRKO wanted us to take MUFFY. Howie's new
Bumper Sticker "Don't blame me, I Voted for Muffy" works both ways. We won't blame Conservatives
now that we have a good Governor in place. We'll take the "blame", or credit if you will, for making
positive changes around here. A woman died in the big dig on Mitt Romney's watch. Shame on him.

I'm not as funny as Lucy Lu; I'm too pissed off.
