CBS is calling her "Nancy Sinatra Sr." in the headline to its online story. It's an awkward situation. Women very rarely use "Sr." or "Jr.", and Mrs. Sinatra, as far as I know, didn't call herself Nancy Sr., nor does her daughter call herself Nancy Jr. Maybe the headline -- and feminists will hate this -- should just call her "Frank Sinatra's first wife" and let the readers discover her given name in the story itself. (And no, "Mrs. Frank Sinatra" -- remember when married women were usually referred to that way? -- wouldn't work, as there were multiple Mrs. Frank Sinatras.)
Yeah, the Nancy who sang "These Boots Are Made for Walking" was born in 1940, which would make her 78 now, assuming that she has had her birthday for this year.
I had always thought that Sinatra's song "Nancy With The Laughing Face" was about his first wife. Apparently, it was originally titled Bessie With The Laughing Face, for the songwriter's wife. So when Frank recorded it in 1944, he was thinking about his 4 year old daughter, although they were still married at the time:
