She actually got to quit on her own. She's leaving the industry, going into a position with an environmental research company.

Best of luck to her...she'll be missed.

Makes you wonder if the writing's finally on the wall over at TXCN. I doubt she'll be replaced, but maybe she knew something was getting ready to happen at TXCN and bailed before the ship started its final descent.

Good observation on your part and wise action on her part.

I used to work with nancy when she was doing weekend weather at KXXV-Waco, shes was a talented person then and still is to this day. Shes going to be doing some great things in the years to come. On TXCN, I have a feeling with Time-Warner moving into the Dallas market (finally), the corpse of TXCN will be buried and TW will launch their own regional or even statewide 24 news channel,as they've done in other markets.

Good for her!

She's one of the nicest people I've ever worked with. I'm glad she's found a new job that she likes and won't have to worry about the future at Belo.

Any idea when the TW takeover of Comcast in DFW will FINALLY happen?

Technically, TW is in the market now, one of the big hold-ups on the total flipover is on the cable internet side of things (changing servers over to Road Runner domain). Once thats completed, expect all the name and package changes. In fact, if you listen to the Texas Rangers games on KRLD, they're already advertising Time Warner Cable and Road Runner.

I think if anything TXCN will close because of the cable companies not wanting to carry the channel anymore, not because of Belo. It propbably doesn't cost Belo very much money to operate TXCN anymore. They get to expose their Texas television properties to many different markets, plus it's a big building, I'm sure other departments are being housed there. I don't think anything will happen over night. Nancy Snell probably had a great opportunity and would have left no matter what. However, come January there could be some changes from what I'm hearing, but nothing until then.

Im still sticking with the time warner 24 hour news channel. If that rumor does pan out, they'll build a facility from the ground up,like they did with News 8 Austin. TXCNs main issue was getting on cable systems, esp. TW properties, and expecting them to pay a boatload to run the poorly created product.

You have forgotten that TW, in partnership with Belo, was part of two massive failures with local cable news channels: News 24 Houston (lasted 19 months) and News 9 San Antonio (lasted 15 months.) Both were supposedly the future of local news production. Both bombed. High operating cost, very little revenue.

Such operations had a better chance of succeeding 10-15 years ago (NY News 1, CLTV, Long Island 12, etc.) than today, as the sheer glut of cable channels results in new offerings being lost in the crowd.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said....

Belo

Anything Belo has sunk its claws into cablewise(Save NWCN)had turned into crap. The reason is simple: Belo Corporate managment wants total oversight and control in cable matters. With a NY1(Time Warner),CN8(Comcast) or CLTV(Tribune), They are separate, independent divisions of the groups they are under and are given some oversight into their own matters(operations, newsgathering, managment), something Belo doesnt like to relinquish control of very easily.

I'm not sure that Belo had much say in News 24 Houston or News 9 San Antonio. I lived in San Antonio at the time and there was little (if any) cross-promotion with Belo-owned KENS. Everyone I knew said that TW called the shots and, when they finally couldn't sell enough ad time, TW shut it down. It apparently had little to do with Belo's management (or mis-management).

I have firsthand knowledge of the situation and Belo had plenty of say with their 50% stake in both Houston & SA. I can't comment on KENS, but KHOU had plenty of incessant promotion on N24H.Ad time had little to nothing to do with the joint ventures closing up shop. Belo & TW both mismanaged the operations against each other. Picture two kids pooling their money together to buy a candy bar and then fighting nonstop over the candy bar untilt hey decide to throw it away rather than share it.
