She's headed to a teaching post at UNT for the spring semester. She departs 8 this month after 21 years. Nann was at Ch 5 before that.

She actually announced this back in July, but I guess it escaped the board somehow.

She's joining a respected broadcast education program that's known for hiring qualified faculty and expecting them to actually teach material of value and to ably guide students in their hands-on learning experiences. Many programs around the country recruit broadcasters with recognized credentials but only want them to serve as window dressing and avoid gumming up the program with such mundane things as useful and valuable knowledge. Those sequences concentrate on numbers, UNT places a premium on quality instruction and quality graduates.

And, get this, for all the NTSU/UNT exes...Nann's primary focus will be to merge the journalism department with the RTVF department, which FINALLY makes a sorely-needed connection between NEWS and BROADCASTING at the school. What a novel concept! But graduates of such a program will doubtfully ever work for Fox.

That is a good idea. Perhaps they could start backing off of that Jazz music for awhile and play what students would like to hear, afterall part of their service fee goes to the station.

Talk about a blast from the past, but I have not seen her on the air in what seems like 5+ years or so.

Actually it was Ch. 4, but who's counting? :)

Wow, can't believe it's already been 21 years since the move to Young St.

Good luck, Nann!

True, i've always found KNTU lacking in decent student-ran programming. I mean, KTCU allows their students to program multi-format programming(rock,r&b,ect..), and their a PRIVATE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE. C'mon, lets get some decent college rock in this market.

Also, its great nan is headed to UNT, they need that vital link between RFTV and the Journallism program.

KNTU once upon a time 25 years ago had music that students enjoyed. It was a current and it had JAMS jingles. George Gimarc had a "punkrock/Alternative Rock show, and jazz was at night. Many graduates were snapped up by KVIL.KZEW, KTXQ,,KRLD.KNTU was only 440 watts at the time, and its audience was huge among students, and Denton-Lewisville. Some in Carollton even placed a tall outside aerial antenna so they could receive the station. KNTU was also mono at the time. The in 1981 the station manager wanted to bring the music department ( 1'o'clock lab band) into the fold and the rest is history. Students used to run the station until it was decided to make the PD, and other positions fulltime and they hired outside of the campus in the 90's. Mark Lambert formerly of KERA 20 years ago is the PD.

I agree, KNTU has become too political. Friend of mine who graduated from the RFTV program there a few years back stated only the brown nosers get on NTU these days.
