With Nascar heading into 1am. What stations will still air news? Live? OR Tape?

What the hell is going on with this?
It was supposed to be over at 11, when I tuned into WNBC to watch the news it looked as if they were just starting the stupidity.
Since 11PM I have watched Eyewitness News, CSI, and am 15 minutes away from putting another episode of The West Wing under my belt!
There are maybe four people, other than those at 30 Rock in the control room, watching this in the entire tri-state area. Please make the misery end!<P ID="signature">______________

I don't know about TV, but I'll say this much, being a board-op sucks on nights like this. ;-)

Toby,

There was a nearly 3 hour delay due to rain. Which put the race start at nearly 10pm central.

KARK Little Rock aired local news after the race broadcast at 1:00 am central. Noted that the anchor corrected herself by starting to say morning after saying evening. Rare that I even bothered with the newscast given my views of KARK's ownership (another thread and topic altogether).

I don't think anyone can blame NBC, FOX would have had to do the same thing. Plus it's a Saturday night and a holiday weekend at that. What else does people have to do. It will be interesting to see how the numbers shape up.

Its a Rain Delay. Cant run races on a wet track. That would be stupidity.

Good for you! Heres a cookie.

Yeah, I guess thats why Nascar is moving heaven and earth to build a speedway in the tri-state area.

Look, clown, you may not like stock car racing, the same as I don't like the NBA..bottom line is there is a lot of money and, yes, ratings riding on this show..so if you don't like it, why not just hit the Cinemax soft porn channel like you do every other Saturday night.

The last two times NASCAR was aired on a Saturday night, it won the evening, so NBC has very good reasons to keep it on. The ad rates for the race top anything else NBC Sports airs, other than the Olympics.

They should go to the Northwest first, IMO. At least New Yorkers have Pocono reasonably close. Fans in Portland and Seattle have to go all the way to Vegas or Fontana to see a Cup race on an oval. Also, there are 3 drivers from the area (Biffle, Bliss, Kahne). NYC and environs can't really claim anyone now that Park's out of the series.

Obviously, he likes a little WNBC news before the Skinemax. . . Nothing wrong with that, I wouldn't think. :)

Often times Nascar and logic don't go together. I agree the Northwest is a prime target area....however track builders and operators of current operations had to jump through numerous environmental hoops just to get those road courses built... The operations that have raced there don't have nearly the emissions, the noise...nor the crowds that Nascar has drawn. It would be a whole new ballgame for them. Good luck to them.

This is going to come as a shock to you. Prepare yourself.

There are people outside of the tri-state area. I know, I know, it's hard to believe, but it's true, I tell ya!

The tree-huggers up there would never allow it. You might displace a spotted owl or something.

Last time I checked, there's a lot more to this country than just the "tri-state area". And NBC has affiliates outside of just the "tri-state area".

I seem to recall reading that NASCAR is now the 2nd most-popular sport, behind only the NFL. I'm not sure if that's referring to attendance or ratings (or both!), but either way, if it's true, that's an impressive statistic.

Well to get back ON TOPIC. WMAQ here in Chicago aired thiers live. Their "live" shot wasnt live however, and the reporter didnt say reporting live, but rather reporting from.... I found it interesting. But we had highlights of the race and if we were taped then they wouldnt have had it.

Loudon, NH is not all that far away from NYC either. Neither is Watkins Glen, NY. Both have Nextel Cup events.

I can agree there. I had to run the race on Saturday. I just kept thinking of the extra couple of hours that I'll have on my check. This might be a more appropriate question for the radio board but I've noticed that most other sports automate their games but the two nascar radio networks don't. Both MRN and PRN require someone to actually board op the races. Just wondering why they don't send tones for the races so they could run automated. Again probably more appropriate for the radio board. Sorry for puttin this in the tv board.

We had taped ours @ 9:59:30pm (as if we were going on live). I'll have to talk to my MCO tonight to see what time he was there until.

Ratings say they made the right decision...

"The race drew a 4.9 overnight rating with a 12 share between 10:30pm/et and 2:00am/et, down only two percent from last year's 5.0/10 on FOX (9:34pm/et-12:26am/et). The rating peaked between 11:00-11:30pm/et with a 5.5/11, the time that the race, if it hadn't been delayed, would likely have been completed. The rain-delayed race broadcast (7:45pm/et -2am/et) rated a 4.2/9..(NBC PR)"
