NASCAR on Nothing But Commercials, fans mad at NBC for ad breaks during the race.

You've established that you don't like commercials. I understand that. So what difference does it make if it's the same 5 spots, or thousands of different ones? You don't like them. Yes we get it. Hit the mute button. Get a beer. Change the channel. Read a book. Lots of things to do besides watch the same commercials.

Let me explain something to you: NASCAR costs money. Everybody wants a piece. So they're going to run commercials. That's the reality of life. They're not going to run fewer commercials.

There. Have I elaborated?

never said I didnt like commercials.

really??? You really have no idea, huh? I guess in a 3 1/2 hour race (plus an hour pre-show) I'd rather see at least a variety of commercials instead of the same 5 commercials which all are pretty lame.

no sh*t holmes. Thanks for that insightful part of your post.

you still have no clue do you? I don't care that they run commercials. My gripe was that when Fox had the races and watched them on the Fox Sports Go app the commercials are the same on the app as what is on TV. So if the Tony Stewart Coke commercial was on Fox (or FS1) it was on the app. NBC decides to insert their own commercials at every commercial break and when they go side by side (so you can still see the race) the app folks can't see the race because they go full screen with the same lame commercials.

so lets see.. from the commercial report for last night
Total number of companies or entities advertised: 48 I had 6. I would have rather seen the 48
Number of times NBCSN utilized 'Side-by-Side' commercials during this broadcast: 4 app folks had 0
Total comm. brdcst time 41 41 minutes of commercials for 48 different companies on TV. 41 minutes of commercials with SIX different companies on the app.

Here's what you said earlier in this thread:

There was a helluva lot of commercial breaks. They were in side by side when Smoke (Stewart) spun out and crashed. Yet they (NBC) showed 2 more commercials before going back live. FOX would have cut out of commercial or at the worst at the end of the commercial playing gone back..not shown 2 more.

Hope it gets better....but doubt it.

Pay the extra $5 a month, and you'll get NBCSN, and you won't have to use the app. Problem solved.

So where did I say I didnt like commercials? I was comparing the difference between FOX and NBC

nice try but um not even close. The difference between what I am right now on cable and what I would need to upgrade to just to get NBC SN is over $20.

I dont know where the "$5 extra" comes from. Even with Dish to upgrade from AT120 to AT200 (which has NBC SN) is $15 more

That's what Comcast charges for their sports package. You get ten sports channels including NBCSN and whatever regional sports channel is available.

Here's a fact: The deal NASCAR has with NBC goes until 2024. They're not going back to Fox.

nice try but I AM on Comcast and the program I am on right now to upgrade to get NBC SN will cost me 21.99 to upgrade to get it.

Sure they are...Next February :p

My biggest gripe is that on the app they show the same commercials. I don't care that they do show commercials but I would rather see different commercials each break and not the same ones over and over every break.

I'm paying $5...I guess I got a good deal. OK, so they split with Fox. As I said, my solution to the commercial thing is mute. Doesn't seem too hard.

You can't show what you don't have. MLB.TV has the same situation and the same complaints from fans who don't understand how advertising works. First, an advertiser has to buy the time in order for an ad to run there, and obviously fewer advertisers are interested in spending on advertising on the app than on OTA/cable. You can't just decide on a "deep playlist" approach to commercials!

Second, advertising is all about repetition, getting your brand burned into the brain of the potential customer. A tiny vocal minority might deliberately refuse to buy anything produced by a company that engages in saturation advertising, but the average American consumer doesn't care -- and next time he needs a new tool or something for his car, he's likely to go to the "place with the helpful hardware folks" or "NAPA knowhow" than the no-name stores the next block down the street. Chalk those sales up, at least in part, to those irritating, inescapable ads!

Still, every TV with a remote has a mute button. I use mine more than the on/off button. I've had to replace remotes because it gets worn out.

And I tend to switch to another game during the commercials, which is very easy to do if you're a baseball or football fan. But if both games are between innings or at halftime, I just sit through the commercials, unmuted.

Fox has no problems showing the same commercials on their Fox Sports Go app as what is on the broadcast platform.

Interesting. Maybe some of the pros here have insight on Fox's arrangement with advertisers compared to NBC's and MLB's -- and the NHL's app/internet service, which I used to subscribe to, as well.
